HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

It hasn't happened to us yet, but I'd worry about picking a guy like Hensler in the mid first. Since he already has one NCAA year under his belt, he could play out two more then tell us he's not signing and force a trade.

He's not eligible for the loophole so he would have to wait till August 15th, 2028 to become a UFA.

Matthew Gard seems like the most obvious Gorton and Hughes pick and it might have to be as early as the 2nd round with the way teams in our division will look at the physicality of the Panthers and think it’s the best way to compete.

Ethan Czata is another guy I really like in the second round, if we decide to go that route. He has a nice mix of grit and skill.

I personally like Braeden Cootes a lot at Habs picks.

He might not be the most skilled guy out there, but he has a relentless motor, covers a lot of ice and is a Swiss knife type of hockey player.

He reminds me of Philip Danault. A high volume player that's gonna get points because he's so industrious and constantly takes good decisions with and without the puck.

Honestly those are the type of players that the habs need to surround this core with. Not soft PP specialists who probably won't see much PP time ahead of the habs current core players

Spence committing to Michigan almost makes him a shoe-in for the Habs. Chance for him to get physically stronger right out of the gate, build a rapport with Hage, and with the amount of picks the Habs have, they wouldn’t be forced to sign him right away like other 1st rounders.

Yes he's the consensus best goalie, but that doesn't mean anything. And sorry but yes there's a fairly big gap between 17 and 25. The chances of getting a player who plays 500 NHL games at 17th is 41.6%, at 25th they drop to 25.8%. That's significant value.

On the other hand, in an average draft class Ravensbergen might not be ranked in the top 30 or even in the 1st round.

Weak/Strong drafts are notoriously offbase I wouldn't let that type of talk dictate any decision making.

Carbonneau's name being tossed around as one of our potential picks at 16/17 tells me it might be very weak.

People forget that waiting to commit for a team will cost a player thousands of dollars in the big picture not to mention that the Habs are a up and coming team and will have the chance to give him a fair chance to play in the NHL.

Another fact, you could also lose the rights of a CHL player after 2 years if he refuses to sign for the team that drafted him.

I keep thinking SJ or Utah will be targets for trading 15,16,40 + prospect (like Mailloux) to move up to #2 (Misa) or 15,16,40 (Hagens or Desnoyer)

The only team I could possibly see being open to a quality for quantity trade is Boston and maybe Nashville. But at that point trading a haul for pick no.7 probably isn't worth it unless the habs have identified someone as too good to pass

Really? Not so sure... both teams have franchise Cs, and Misa is a "possible" star centre, wont be ready next year at least.
I mean, nice to have yes -- but he wont ve turning the needle for several years.. SJ must start to improve, Misa wont do anything for them.
So we give them 3 very good prospect picks this year plus Mailloux whos ready to step in next year.. thats equivalent of 3 1strnd picks and a high 2nd.

Is that really outlandish?

Now if they ask for Reinbacher, id go for it. RB + 2nd for #2 pick.

Saw a scout compare Hensler's physicality to Guhle. That seems like a solid pick in our range to me.

Everything ive scouted on the guy - he's a solid top pairing RHD.. his knock is his offence.. ??.. ok i get it, most teams want a top D to be a 40pt guy, but we already have our offense from defence. He's like a gift at our range. Imagine a stud RHD like Hensler holding the Right side woth a Guhle or Hutson?

Well, thank god he dropped.. he'd be the PERFECT pick at #15.
