HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

The Athletics two round mock is out, put together by Pronman and Wheeler. They have the Habs taking:

16. Justin Carbonneau
17. Jackson Smith
41. Mason West
49. Ryker Lee

Bear, Mrtka, Aitcheson, Lakovic, and Cootes were taken prior to our first round picks.

Not a fan of Jackson Smith. I seriously doubt we take him. I expect pick #17 to be traded anyway.

I have a fixation on Gastrin, I just love his game, I would even consider him at 16 or 17 overall. Just a solid high character player with tools, size, good hockey IQ. Definitely above Malcolm Spence in my book.

Yeah, it is getting pretty irritating to read this thread and attempt to get info on players that will likely come out in the 8-20 range just for some other poster to instantly reply the classic "he won't be available".

Can we just let people share why they like such and such player? What if HuGo trade up a week before the draft like they did last year (Hage) and the circumstances change?
Sorry but All your favorite prospects will be gone.

I think it's the first time I see Romano's name around here. How's his skating?

How does he compare to other smallish skilled players we took around there (like Kidney for example)?

He's nothing like Kidney. He's a terrific skater and has a Gallagher type work ethic. He's able to make plays while in motion / speed, and plays with pace. He's another RHS center. He isn't top 6 or bust due to his overall game, but he has top 6 upside.

He had a strong season and playoffs for a young Kitchener team. Not PPG strong, but close. He really stepped it up from his rookie year.

I expect him to break out next season.

Upside comp would be Anthony Cirelli/Vincent Trochek type. Both were drafted in 3rd round in their drafts though.

Really interesting profile then. Especially if we go "big" with some of our other picks, it would be nice to bet on some skills too. And 5'11 isn't exactly short anyway.

Just saw the three 3rds we have are picks 79, 81 and 82:

That'll be fun on draft day. Lol But I expect at least one of those is traded.

i watched some Kitchener games to get a sense of Cameron Reid and Romano was the one who stood out to me. great shot too.

Are you talking about Romano?

I like Nestrasil and Genberg with our 2nds, big physical kids that would add size and toughness to our prospects pool. Romano I didnt watch at all, but I like your description.

I'm pretty sure there are a lot of teams that like Nestrasil & Genborg. They're under-valued by scouting reports, imo.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nestrasil ends up a late 1st rounder (like Chytil) & Genborg goes top 45. I expect one or two of the 3 to be there at our first 2nd (#41). I'm not sure any of them will be there at #49.

I picked Romano over Genborg because I think we need a lot more centers in our system, and the Genborg-type is something we have somewhat in guys like Heineman, FloJack, Tuch & Thorpe. I feel that type is slightly easier to draft in later rounds too in better drafts.
