HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

The more I watch some of his highlights, the more I'd like Hughes to move up to get a crack at Mrkta. He'd be our Chara. We haven't had a nasty ornery blue liner since Dave Manson and I think he could be that type of player.

No. Hagens isn't in the convo for anyone for 1st OA and hasn't been for awhile.

Hagens will likely go to Nashville at #5. If not there, I think Hagens will likely be Philadelphia's pick at #6 and would pair extremely well with Michkov.

#1 and #2 are gonna be Schaefer/Misa.

Chicago I think will likely elect to draft a guy like Martone or Frondell, to give some talented size for Bedard to play with.

I have Martone higher than Frondell so I think Chicago will select him, but Frondell is a better fit for Chicago's drafting strategy and their "need for speed" at the forward position (Nazar, Moore, Spellacy, Mustard, etc. all fit that mold, Boisvert and Levshunov are also solid+ skaters).

Utah at #4 don't have glaring needs. They have Simashev and Daniil But waiting to come over from Russia, Iginla that has had an injury-plagued season but still tracks very well to the NHL, and multiple other talented pieces in their fold (like Beaudoin, Lamoureux, Szuber [very underrated in here IMO], Hrabal, etc.).

But I think that instead of drafting a pure-skill center like Hagens they will instead elect to draft guys that are a bit bigger and have more physical potential, like Desnoyers, Frondell, or Martone if the Blackhawks don't select him.

I could also see Utah going off the beaten path and selecting a guy like Jackson Smith or maybe even Radim Mrtka given that they have been known to not shy away from somewhat controversial picks for players with "+" tools and size.

Long story short, you are 100% right and Hagens won't likely be selected within the top-3 picks.

Isles will pick the local kid?

Hagens is already making it awkward. If there are players at the draft, you definitely know the cameras are going to be panning on him as Islanders pick Schaefer or Misa.

Got a bit of an hypothetical scenario in mind for your guys.

If Porter Martone makes it to #8 on the draft floor, on account of teams 1-7 needing centers and defensemen before wingers and/or being a bit "down" on him because of energy/pace/skating problems, would you be happy if the Canadiens traded both #16 and #17 to Seattle be in a position to draft Porter Martone at #8?

I sure would, but I don't know if I'd be in the minority or not.

Everyone would be happy that we got into the top 10 with those picks.

I'd rather use both 2nds on RD than take Fiddler top 20. Odds are one ends up developing better than him anyway, and there are many options to choose from.

Unlikely. Fiddler has a lot of tools and has bloodlines. Fiddler's floor is a 3rd pair RD. Hard to say that about anyone projected to go in the 2nd round of this craptastic draft.

On twitter he's getting linked to the hawks at 3, would be very surprised if he fell to 8 though. I don't see how the Habs don't trade at least 1 of their 1st for help though and this draft looks like ass, so a great year to not have tanked.

The high end talent of this draft definitely sucks, I'm only really a fan of Schaefer and Misa as high end prospects. But it's got decent depth for very projectable prospects until pick 20ish.

If we manage to sign Bennett or even Duchene or whoever this offseason for 2C and we can keep both picks that would be great asset management. The chance at 2 of Aitcheson, Reschny, Bear, Cootes, Spence, Hensler, Fiddler etc is pretty tempting if you ask me. At least one of those guys is gonna develop into a top tier player in the NHL, we could have 2 bullets in the chamber to hit with.

Obviously signing Bennett would be the biggest win of all and it frees up all this draft power. It'll be interesting to see if HuGo is willing to make the picks and gamble on waiting until FA to see if they can sign a UFA. Good times ahead.

He seems like a man among boys. A very good skater for such a big man. Add a few more pounds, a bit of a mean streak, and he becomes a terrific shutdown defenseman. Love how he plays. Would love to see him with the Habs.

just like Silayev the defense is in question, at this point I would be shocked if he turns into a shutdown D. Granted I haven't seen that much of him but his game is offense and size with good mobility.

I saw very little of him, he's got heavy feet but I wouldn't call him soft at all. GM's always over draft height though so he's going top 5 easily I would think.
Maybe soft is too harsh of a word, but when people were comparing him to the Tkachucks, I was expecting a much different player.

That's fair as I haven't seen him compared to the Tkachuk's. I wanted to see him more but then we started going up in the standings so I figured no one would watch the vids and they can be a pain in the ass to edit and can take 2-3 hours to complete. I started to watch him in the WC's yesterday against Hungary but the stream wasn't good so I quickly turned it off.

One of Wheeler or Pronman used the comp in their mock/ranking this week, can't recall which and I agree he's far from Tkachuk. Way more of a Jason Robertson if he hits
