HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

You just described Poehling as a prospect. Seriously, you could probably find this verbatim in old threads about Poehling circa 2017 and earlier.
Go ahead find the scouting report on Poehling. I remember that draft and Poehling was the guy with all the tools but with no production pre draft. Many questioned his upside and he was labelled a safe bet to become a 3rd line center but with limited upside. Martin is nothing like that, go watch him instead of fixating on scouting report. Poehling was selected late first btw, nothing like a top 10 prospect. He had question mark about his offensive game.

Anyway it's moot point. Martin won't be available when we will select. He will leapfrog into the top 10 in the next Bob McKenzie ranking.

Yeah he's moving way up my board. His speed, engagement and anticipation on the wing that he showcased this tournament changes a lot.

I think he's a waste at center. I get it's the more valuable position, but his impact and strengths are much more greatly felt on the wing where he can just play at full throttle without having to worry about being the first man back. Sometimes it just works out that way, like for Sam Reinhart.

I like the Landeskog comp. Dustin Brown is another good one and there are some elements of Mark Stone as well.
Yes. His game is so mature. I think he is a candidate to play in the NHL as a 18 years old. He still can improve but his game is already very pro like.

Lol, this description is more apt for Martin now than it was for Poehling then.

“Brady Martin projects as a dependable 3C at the NHL level”

“Martin lacks the upper-end puck-transporting ability or dynamic ability to excel as a top-six center, but his physical play, puck-hounding and solid passing from a scrum could make him an excellent fit next to high-skill players who play with a bit more finesse."

That Smaht scouting is no joke, probably the worst list that I have ever seen. 🤯

They truly fantasize over small players with no path to pro career.

Anway, I do not make my opinion on players with scouting report. I watch them play and this is why having players like Schimdt and Potter above Desnoyers or Martin is quite a take mostly on people that believe that every team have undersized players in their top 6 and throw out of the window projectable attributes to the NHL.

Schmidt probably won't be in my top 50. He's where plays go to die.

If he can play center at the NHL level then he is a center. Some of the comparisons here are way off such as Stone and Reinhart who are guys who rely on hands and IQ to make up for skating deficits and neither one is nearly as physically aggressive as Martin although Reinhart has stepped his physical game up a little with Florida's current identity. As prospects these guys did not resemble Martin at all either.

I fully agree that he could be a terrific winger but that will likely be his secondary position and more likely happens if his offensive prowess proves to be beyond a 3rd line center on a team that already has two strong incumbent centers.

Lol classic. “Those scouts are wrong because I disagree with them. You don’t watch this guy and only read scouting reports because you disagree with me”. What a juvenile mindset.
If Schmidt and Potter really are above Desnoyers in their rankings, it is well deserved criticism.

Yeah but the you know who crew will exclaim we need these small skilled guys and then cry when we get physically outmatched in the playoffs, then resume bashing Slaf.

Stop overdrafting size or thoughness. It always backfire!!
I still remember us drafting McCarron because we got dominated physically in the playoff and decide to draft size with the like of McCarron, De la rose and Connor f***** Crisp.

If we want size we acquire it via free agency or trade at the deadline or pick outside the 1st or 2nd round. Draft top talent and compete level, not size. We already have Xhekaj in the system and he was drafted in the 4th round as we did with Thorpe, Protz. Let's continue that way.
Also a lot of the big guy hit waiver before establishing them self…

Martin definitely pushed up at the U18's...

Who else?

Fiddler?
Boumedienne?
Potter?

I hope we keep our top 4 picks... there are some playoff warriors available this year... let's grab 'em!

how? they are nothing alike.
Fast, skilled, no hockey IQ.
One of the most baffling highly ranked player that I have seen. The guy only go fulll speed, try deking 3 players and shot at the net every shift. Barely look around the 3 easy passing options available. Does he have the talent to play in the pro? yes but his decision making is very poor. Syndrome of a player that always has been the best player everywhere he has played and refuse (or forget) to play with his teammates.

fair enough, just odd to compare a guy that's just a playmaker to a guy that's mainly a goal scorer. I haven't seen him enough to comment on his IQ but he seems to work hard consistently unlike Mesar.

Justin Carbonneau looks really intriguing. Some reports on him please?

Do he have top 6 potential?
Carbonneau is known for his offensive skill set, especially his ability to create plays in tight spaces and navigate through traffic. He has excellent vision, allowing him to generate scoring chances for both himself and his teammates. His shot is quick and accurate, making him a constant threat in the offensive zone.

Although his skating stride is sometimes described as wide, it doesn’t hinder his speed or agility. He effectively uses his speed to create space and pressure opposing defenders.

Interesting. I see him as more of a shoot from anywhere player with a bit of tunnel vision who is at risk of not producing at higher levels.

Ranked far but he's putting up pts

He's progressing well points wise.

He's a player if you can get with a 3rd, you do, hope he continues that trajectory and then use him in a trade
