HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

Slovakia got robbed...not calling a penalty at the start of the OT.....insane.

They've got to start thinking about a player that the habs could use in 3 years to surround the core with. Just getting the most skilled players who play top minutes on the PP in junior (but won't get close to the habs PP1) is useless for the most part. Who will complement the core well? of course if someone drops and is a homerun pick, you take them. But 2024 (besides the 1st round) looks like a lost opportunity. Can make it two drafts in a row. Sometimes the best player isn't the best player for you. Focus on getting the right player.

This isn't directly responding to your post but it's in the same vein.

Outside of the usual suspect names, these are some guys I like. Some of these would be drafted solely with the expectation of beefing up Laval:

Jack Murtagh
Henry Brzustewicz
Ethan Czata
Owen Martin
Kristian Epperson
Peyton Kettles
Brandon Gorzynski
Hayden Paupanekis
Aiden Foster
Everett Baldwin
Kieren Dervin
Aidan Lane

McKinney is pretty much the only guy that interest me in this US team. Ahead of Horcoff.
I came away with the same thought and even McKinney look like a bottom 6 forward.

Fiddler is dropping off my list. Poor feet, poor gap control and too passive. I liked Asher Barnett more.

I do not see anything special with Potter.

Well...that's a non-event. Really dissapointed by every Swede right now...Frondell, Ishhhhh-Wozniak...etc. Not that it will change that much my list...but...just wanted a better game.

Hate the Ravens

But if there’s team I would listen their draft strategy it’s them

His drafting strategy does not apply to the NHL because the NFL draft is so need driven and it is so much easier to draft very good players in the mid to late rounds. His success is more about identifying players that will properly fit the schemes of his coaching staff and the staffs ability to develop that player properly. His explanation is flawed under any context as he is not factoring in the fact that success rate drops with each subsequent pick....that is just a fact and no matter how many anecdotes he cobbles together it won't change anything. He likely would agree with this as this was a condensed explanation that will mislead readers who lack critical thinking abilities and require the obvious to be stated.

I do think he is justified in this thinking in the NFL as long as he is still recognizing the value of each pick and using that to provide context (which I am sure he is).

The guy is a winner. And will kill an opponent to win. Habs need that.
He’s also another smallish forward. His upside is limited, imo. Like I said, he’s really reminiscent of Ryan Poehling as a prospect, except Poehling was 6’2” and around 200 lbs when he was drafted. This guy seems like the same thing in a smaller package. He’d be a really underwhelming pick, imo.

He’s got future 3C written all over him. Reminds me of Ryan Poehling at the same age. No thanks.
I don't see any Poehling in him. He is a possesion beast and is consistency from shift to shift is impressive. He is thick, he hits often, he goes to the net, he can snipe it and he has the smart. To me his game is taylor made to become a playoff beast and a premium center for a top team. My comparison is Landeskog as a center. He would be the perfect center for us

You just described Poehling as a prospect. Seriously, you could probably find this verbatim in old threads about Poehling circa 2017 and earlier.

Yeah he's moving way up my board. His speed, engagement and anticipation on the wing that he showcased this tournament changes a lot.

I think he's a waste at center. I get it's the more valuable position, but his impact and strengths are much more greatly felt on the wing where he can just play at full throttle without having to worry about being the first man back. Sometimes it just works out that way, like for Sam Reinhart.

I like the Landeskog comp. Dustin Brown is another good one and there are some elements of Mark Stone as well.
