HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

Would love for us to draft Filip Ekberg with the Pittsburgh 2nd. Hopefully he won't go earlier now that he finally gets to showcase his talent at the U18 World Championships

If he gets drafted, it will be late.. these U18s don't do enough for stocks to take someone from virtually not getting drafted to the 2nd round.

I would definitely take him in the middle rounds though.. he got neutered by Dave Cameron.

Ben Kindel (C, R, 5’10”, 176, Calgary Hitmen, 04/19/2007)

Benjamin Kindel is an intelligent, highly skilled, and competitive two-way center with excellent vision and playmaking ability. Despite being slightly undersized for the professional game, Kindel’s agility, hockey IQ, and willingness to engage physically make him an intriguing prospect. His ability to create and capitalize on scoring opportunities, combined with his strong work ethic and defensive awareness, gives him the tools to develop into a reliable NHL forward. However, improving his strength, shooting efficiency, and puck management will be critical for him to maximize his potential.

WHL: Benjamin Kindel - Neutral Zone - Men's

Hard not to like Mrtka on a pure toolbox level. The kid is enormous and he moves really well. Not half bad with the puck, as well. I don't know how good his offensive game will be at the next level, but he won't be a complete klutz.

Logan Hensler (D, R, 6’2″, 192, University of Wisconsin, 10/14/2006, Wisconsin)

Logan Hensler is a smooth-skating, two-way defenseman with a highly projectable frame and strong foundational skills. His mobility, size, and poise with the puck make him a potential top-15 draft pick for the 2025 NHL Draft. While he is already excelling in key areas, further consistency in his decision-making and defensive scanning or pre-reads could elevate him into a potential top-10 selection. Hensler’s performance at the World Jr. Championships and his half to the season at the University of Wisconsin will be scrutinized as he continues to transition from a USA Program standout to a potential NHL impact player.

NCAA: Logan Hensler - Neutral Zone - Men's

Bukala has him going 14. How you see Hensler like a Ryan McDonogh? We have that player in Reinbacher though. A second pairing right shot D.

Right shot D with size... Not sure he is on the board when we pick (Bob M has Hensler 11th I believe). Even if he is another Reinbacher, draft him anyway... if we feel he has NHL top 4D potential.

Habs have lots of skill at this point. We need warriors who can play D and win the battles. This should be our targets moving forward. Guys with size, grit, strength/weight, and skating. This applies to all positions... D, C, and wingers.

MTL draft picks:

1st Round: 16th (CGY) + 17th (MTL) *the CGY pick needs to stay at 16th because if they win the lottery and move up to 6th, MTL will get FLA's pick*
2nd Round: 41st (PIT) + 49th (MTL)
3rd Round: 79th (VAN) + 81st (MTL) + 82nd (NJ)
4th Round: 108th (DET) + 112th (MTL)
5th Round: 144th (MTL)
6th Round: 176th (MTL
7th Round: 208th (MTL)

At this stage of the rebuild, use the 2nd rounds picks to move up en ensure you get the players you want, like last draft with Hage.

I would be satisfy with getting Martin and Hensler.

That's crazy talk. I saw him get put in his ass while trying hit a player from Czechia yesterday.

Love him as a prospect and wish he could be the Habs pick but saying he'd be one of the best hitter in the NHL at 18 is absurd.
It's hyperbole, for sure, but he's definitely a very physical presence. He's one of those few guys who should be able to carry it to the pros just fine IMO. I don't see him turning into Gilbert Brulé.

Top 100 is usually where I focus on because that's where most of the NHL players are picked. 7 solid darts again this draft. 108 and 112 as well if you want to include them.

No doubt in my mind that we are going to try to see what we can get in trades with our picks/futures.

Depends on where most of the teams feel the drop is at. I believe Bob M said there is a drop around 8 and another around that 15-20 range. We are right in the middle of that 2nd waive drop.

It will be interesting to see what teams offer us in trades and if those offers don't fit what we are looking for, what do we do to try to move down.

I don't believe this is a 100% guarantee. I can see a lot of movement from 10-20 range. Probability says he is not on the board when we pick but I would not peg that at 100%.
The X factors in this draft are McQueen and Bear IMO. If teams judge that they can fully recover from their injuries and that it won’t impact their development, then they should both go top 12ish, pushing other guys like Martin down the rankings.

Otherwise, I think Martin is gone when we pick. A lot of GMs and coaches probably love his projectability, decent floor, intensity and untapped offensive potential. It’s a solid mix for a middle six center.

Probably gone before we pick but I'm not pegging that at 100%. Maybe 75-90% probability range.
