HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

Aitcheson is having a great playoff. Doubt he is there at 16. I think we get one of Martin, Cootes or Reschny. Reschny I sense Brayden Point type. With our second first Spence be good pick. A 25 goal physical winger. I would package later picks to move into late first and draft Fiddler. A big mobile right D.

Ryker Lee or Newborg with Pitt 2nd.
Why not try to target Logan Hensler RHD at 15?

these prospects will take 2-3 minimum to develop so i hope we don't pass on someone like Jackson Smith or kashawn aitcheson because they are lhd because by then Matheson should be gone, hutson has better # on his off side, xhejak is more then likely a 5-7 dman love ghule but injury prone

Not advocating for either of those prospects just hope we don't draft for need

I agree, dont draft for needs at 15-16th because so much can happen until they are ready. I think its more likely 3-4 years from the NHL.

Cameron Schmidt looks like a high bust potential to me, very small and plays a junior type of game, I dont think the Habs will draft small TBH anyway, Brady Martin I like his combativeness and physical game, but his feet are kinda slow for his frame, if we are lucky maybe we get a decent third liner, thats at least my impression after few viewings, Cootes I like his motor, skating, but I have a hard time to picture him on a top 6 and doesnt have the size Im looking for as a bottom liner. I mean, we got kids like Xhekaj, Heineman, Kapanen, Beck, Tuch, Davidson... Do we really need small bottom liners?

As for Aitcheson, I didnt like his decision making or defending IQ in my limited viewings, but take it for what is worth since you probably watched those kids alot more than I did.
Martin is 6’0 and will be 195-200 pounds as a pro. Hits now like he’s already there.

Strong kid and not small.

He is listed at 174 lbs and the feet are heavy, he should be a better skater at that weight. Also gaining 20-25 lbs is wishful thinking, 10-15 lbs seems more realistic.

Nahhh. He’s 17. The 174 has eight layers of dust on it since September.

Feet aren’t as heavy as his body checks.

Weird seeing Filip Ekberg take the U18 over like that, I haven't been wowed by him even once with the 67's all season. Goes to show how these tournaments are always kind of a completely different reality, scouting wise. You really need to treat these as their own thing.
Bingo u18 is misleading. The semi final and final are usually interesting though.

I want big boy who plays big an tough.

Martin, Nesbitt or Spence.

Cootes players bigger and tougher than Nesbitt. Nesbitt is more your Joe Colborne.

Ekberg has the misfortune of being coached by Dave Cameron. He's a potential late round steal for me.. a guy who impressed every time he's away from his CHL team and buffoon coach.

Nesbitt loves to drop the mitts.

Stop overdrafting size or thoughness. It always backfire!!
I still remember us drafting McCarron because we got dominated physically in the playoff and decide to draft size with the like of McCarron, De la rose and Connor f***** Crisp.

If we want size we acquire it via free agency or trade at the deadline or pick outside the 1st or 2nd round. Draft top talent and compete level, not size. We already have Xhekaj in the system and he was drafted in the 4th round as we did with Thorpe, Protz. Let's continue that way.
