HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

Disagree. Demidov is the type of talent that can do everything himself. He just needs space created for him.

Kind of like Kaprizov with Eriksson-Ek

And it’s not like Martin is Nate Thompson. He’s a really good player.
The center still has to be able to keep up with Demi. There's a minimum threshold of skill you'd need in his center. Personally I just don't see that with Martin. I'd prefer trading up and taking the risk of drafting McQueen. He'd be the perfect center for Demidov.

Benjamin Kindel is a 5'10'' center with excellent hockey IQ, great shut, very fluid skates and is good on faceoffs.

If we keep the CGY pick, I think they need to have eyes on Malcolm Spence. That's exactly the type of prospect we need at this point.

Can develop into a solid player, he have a lot of Leonard//Iginla in his game.

If you draft a guy now thinking he's gonna play with Demidov that won't work. By the time the guy's ready Demidov will have been there for probably 3 years and by then they will found a trade, I would hope. His center should have been drafted before him really, it's too late now. It's gotta be trade somehow.

I do not get how Brady Martin is universally liked by internet scouts but a more productive, showing more top 6 potential with great two way, face off and just being a beast for his team like Reschny. He his carrying his team on his back and is talked down as late first (really?!) or not considered for our pick. What are they seeing in Martin or missing in Reschny. Don't tell me it's the size. They are separated by 1 inch. I think Reschny would be tremendous value for our pick at 16 or 17. He reminds a lot of Tomas Plekanec.
Martin plays in better league but both pretty close. With playoff Reschny is having probably sway teams to pick him ahead of Martin.

I probably would take Reschny at 16 and Spence at 17. Try and trade Jackets 2nd and our 2nd to Colombus for Wild's 21. Take Cootes. Then Genborg or Vansaghi with Pitt's 2nd.

Make Reschny, Spence, Cootes, Genborg.

I will wait the u18 to finalize my list. I think it will be very interesting this year because all prospects are very close but Reschny has upped his game a level since the playoff started.

What do the draft connoisseurs on this board think of potential RD targets with 2nds and
3rds picks? Amico, Brzustewicz, Psenicka, Huang, Handel, and others?

How would you guys feel about us taking Mason West with one of the 2nd rounder.

High risk, high reward.
He is a dual sport athlete (QB and hockey) so there is always the chance he chooses the other sport.
But that also makes him SOOOO intriguing. A 6'6", 207 lbs giant at age 17. With him focusing on 2 sports, his development is somewhat delayed so he is even more of a raw product than your typical 17 years old.
Definitely would be OK gambling on him with one of our 2nd.

2nd rounders should always be chosen for two year development: who'll be better in two years x vs y.

Top 10: BPA right now
1st round: 1 year

That's why i prefer young (calender year) draftees in the 2nd.. it's like gaining a year.

It could be Hage.

I think he arrives in 2026-27. We just need a 1 or 2 year stop gap (Duchene)

There's gonna be a bunch of interesting names at 16-17 for us if we keep those picks. I'm hoping McQueen falls but I'm down for Hensler, Cootes, Carbonneau, Bear, Spence, Fiddler, or Mrtka if he miraculously falls.

I feel like the middle first round of this draft is very interesting with a bunch of players that could develop really well into core pieces.
