HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

Martin is my main wish in the mid-first, with Bear a close second, even with the injury concerns. Potter would be real nice as well, he's very underrated. Spence I've liked quite a lot too, since his rookie season in the OHL. I'm going all motor this year, in short
Martin for me as well, and Spence, too (although a RD makes sense).

Where the Habs will pick in Round 1 in ‘26 is unknown, but after pondering the downside of looking like a Hounds’ homer, I’ll roll the dice and say I have my eyes on this guy to fill a RD slot.

Reid

Great skater with a smooth stride. Excellent outlet passer. Intelligent playmaker who sees the ice well and seems to always make the right play.
Joined the Hounds in December and immediately made an impact as a point-per-game D.
Could still be bound for Michigan State but I hope not!

Skating is such that he can go end to end with the puck.

Looks to me like a top-half Round 1 prospect and as a righty that seems like a very safe bet.

If he were available this year he’d be in the Top 15, IMO. I dream of him and Hutson paired on the PP.

The only way we get Martin is if we move up. He's solidly in top 12. Our first pick is #16.

The top 6 won't move, but #7 Buffalo, #8 Anaheim, #9 Pittsburgh, #10 NYI, #11 NYR, #12 Detroit, #13 Columbus, #14 Utah & #15 Vancouver will all have their picks at least available for trade. The potential is there to move up.

Guys. Who is the smartest player in the Top 8 to Top 25 prospects range?

The smartest is my pick.

Last year at third I had Catton as our pick cause he is way smarter than Iginla and Lidstrom.

Obviously I though that Demidov would be drafted second by Chicago...i had

Celebrini
Demidov
Catton in that order.

This year I did not watched too much of those prospects from 10 to 20th but always draft the player with the best IQ..always.. no matter thier size

12th is the highest he's rated right now. I wouldn't say solidly top 12 at all. Fringe, yes.

Islanders’ prospects cupboard has a lot of empty space. Their need to re-set/re-stock is very stark.

I think Brzustewicz will be a complete beast next year and would really like to see us take him. He's been asked to play everything from #1-#5 this year and he's done well in just about every instance. I like how adaptable/intelligent he is and he really likes to mix it up, which is something I think we need to continue to add.

I have him ahead of Fiddler for those + a few other reasons. There seems to be some reflection of that in the media lately, but we'll see how everyone's final rankings shake out.
Mentioned this a couple of posts ago. I agree. I like the player and as an added bonus he plays a position of need.

Cole Reschny is going to shoot up in some draft boards. Between him and kindel there will be some interesting names left on the board when we pick

So we got (correct me if wrong)

16th overall
17th overall
40th overall
49th overall
72nd overall
73rd overall
74th overall
I would package those picks below and trade them to try getting a top pick 8 this year.

17th overall
40th overall
49th overall
72nd overall
73rd overall
74th overall

Some teams in needs of quantity instead of quality might take the bait.

I do not get how Brady Martin is universally liked by internet scouts but a more productive, showing more top 6 potential with great two way, face off and just being a beast for his team like Reschny. He his carrying his team on his back and is talked down as late first (really?!) or not considered for our pick. What are they seeing in Martin or missing in Reschny. Don't tell me it's the size. They are separated by 1 inch. I think Reschny would be tremendous value for our pick at 16 or 17. He reminds a lot of Tomas Plekanec.

Martin is a warrior. There's multiple pathways to him playing for your team. Not to mention that Martin's frame will pack more muscle than Reschny ever will, so one will be thick and able to battle while the other will have to do it through skill.

Reschny is only gonna be a top 6 player or a European pro.

Reschny is fun but we need more Martin types. If we are gonna create a viable top 6 line outside of a line that Slaf is on. We need another heavy forecheck presence with skill to play on another line.

I disagree about Martin being a warrior and Reschny not labelled as one. All stats points out as Reschny being superior in 1 on 1 battles, face-off and chance creator, +/- and carrying his team in key moments. The only difference is their size, all the rest point as being very similar type of center. I think Reschny also offer more offensive potential than Martin if we project to the NHL. I do like Martin and I would not be angry if he is selected by the Habs but the disrespect toward Reschny is astonishing to me. Both have to continue their development but what Reschny possess (smart, hustle, high volume chance creator and two way game) will make him a very good center in the NHL. I also do not draft 4th line center with our top pick, this is ridiculous like we did with Poehling or Beck. I want a player that can operate with the like of Demidov and be able to cover defensively and Reschny to me fill that need to perfection. He is also rising his game to the occasion and a key playoff performer. He needs development but I could envision a proper development path similar to Nick Suzuki where he can work on getting stronger and improve his explosiveness. The hockey IQ and work rate is there for him.

I just don't see Reschny the same way. He looks more like Eberle than a Suzuki. Martin could have a similar impact to Sam Bennett and that's more of the type of center Demidov will need.

Disagree. Demidov is the type of talent that can do everything himself. He just needs space created for him.

Kind of like Kaprizov with Eriksson-Ek

And it’s not like Martin is Nate Thompson. He’s a really good player.

Exactly. Demidov is going to be so puck dominant that he needs a center which can kill plays defensively and provide space in the offensive zone. Pair that with a one touch sniper like a Boeser and profit

Malcolm Spence would be such a nice asset to add into the prospect pool and if he hits would be an absolute menace for teams to deal with for a decade
Wouldn't mind Vansaghi for the same reason. Now that we have game breaking talent up front, surrounding them with players that are a nightmare to play against should be the key. Add Spence+Vansaghi to guys like Heineman, Tuch, Thorpe, Xhekaj and you're gonna have a protypical playoff team
