So let’s get crazy. We have enough B/C prospects as is, we need quality and we have the ammo to get it done. We have two 2nds and three 3rds. How far could we move up if we were to package them all together?

Currently, this is the picks we own in the 2nd/3rd rounds :

Wonder how much we could move up offering a bundle of our 2nds/3rds.

Calgary's 1st is worth far more than any of those 3.

There is such a distinct drop off from Desnoyers' likely draft position to the picks in the mid teens that I do not think it is a scenario that has much of a chance to develop. Hughes would have to add to the offer to even have a chance of completing it. The only way that the Habs move up into the top 6 is via a draft lottery win or a late season collapse.

The reason I was asking is because McQueen and Frondell were ranked higher than Desnoyers at the beginning of the season. Its really hard to say where they would rank if they had played all season.

Nevertheless, those 3 centers are ranked between 6th and 10th on most lists right now, so without necessarily moving to 6th place, it is quite possible that one of those 3 would be available at 9th for example.

So the question is still kinda similar. If Montreal is not far (like 11th and 16th with the two choices), is it better to try to trade up to get one of those three, or keep those two picks and gamble getting two second tiers centers that are available instead? (O'Brien, Bear, Ryabkin, Martin, Cootes)

Using the Puckpedia pick value chart, this all adds up to the 26th pick.
Unless you REALLY like a player there, I think the odds are far better at getting a player out of the 5 picks rather than a single one at 26, especially if the draft isn't particularly deep like 2025.

Other exercises with picks 13 and 16 as of today's Tankathon picking order:
13+26 = 6 (doubtful)
16+26 = 7 (doubtful)
13+16 = 4 (no way)
13+16+26 = 2 (no f'in way)

For high picks I prefer the DraftProspects tool's value chart which gives:
13+26 = 8 (still doubtful)
16+26 = 9 (still doubtful)
13+16 = 7 (with the right partner, maybe)
13+16+26 = 5 (nah)
 
At this point, our best targets are O'Brien and Mrtka with our earliest 1st and Carbonneau, Prokhorov, Kindel and Martin with our latest 1st.

Kindel is a solid player, and I'm not saying you're wrong, but it's hardly that cut and dry. I personally much prefer Potter's motor. McKenzie's midseason list also reflected that much, with Potter 20th and Kindel 25th.

I've heard that a few teams really like O'Brien. Suspect he's gone in the top 6. He has the profile to do it.

The only thing I would bet on this year is huge surprises. That's been the name of the game for 3 years drafts now.

Certainly not saying it *will* happen, but all it takes to completely reformat multiple lists is one of Frondell going 3rd-5th, O'Brien going 6th/7th, Mrtka going 6th/7th, etc.

He's at the very least a player.

I don't see the upside to justify a top 10-15 pick. (3C ceiling, 4C floor) but something like Dave Bolland who I think everyone would agree was a core player in those first two Chicago cups is within reach.

I see Cootes more as Bolland. Don't think Obrien has that edge.

Sorry, was thinking of Brady Martin.

I agree that O'Brien's given me some off vibes, but he'll still probably make my top 10 in this weak class ultimately. Something like a healthy Tim Connolly.
