HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

What are people looking at for the 2nd round picks? I just don't see a lot of talent pass 20 this year. Might be a good year to package some picks to move up a couple spots. I think if Calgary ends up 16th, and a 2nd rounder takes us to 12, I would do it. I think the possibility of ending up with McQueen, Desyoners, Eklund or Frondell (IMO, one of these 4 might fall a bit) would be a fantastic pick up.

I'm just unimpressed with this draft. Maybe I just haven't been watching enough jr. hockey or the players have become so bland, but outside the top 20 guys I just don't see a lot of NHL talent.

We need to do whatever we can to come away with 1 of Misa/Frondell/Desnoyers. Trade all the picks
team doesn't have the balls needed to make a move like this. Will hang onto Matheson, Savard, Evans, Calgary's pick etc instead.

Around 40-45? Nobody's really separated themselves from the pack of meh.

Probably just take a swing at a towering defenseman:

Peyton Kettles - 6'5 RD - Swift Current - WHL - very young
Jacob Rombach - 6'6 LD - Lincoln - USHL
David Bedkowski - 6'5 RD - Owen Sound - OHL

Some other RHDs:

Henry Brzustewicz - 6'1 RD - London - OHL
Charlie Trethewey - 6'1 RD - USNTDP
Alex Huang - 6'0 RD - Chicoutimi - QMJHL - very young

Or a goalie:
Alexei Medvedev - 6'1 G - London - OHL - very young
Jack Ivankovic - 5'11 G - Brampton - OHL
Pyotr Andreyanov - 6'0 G - CSKA Moskva - MHL

Based on Bob's current list, I also like Vansaghi a lot there.

Regarding Brady Martin, the OHL expert around here Brock Otten seems to like him.

4. Brady Martin - Center - Soo Greyhounds
The next four guys on my list are honestly pretty interchangeable at this point. I'd view any of them as potential top 25 (or so) picks. Martin continues to fly under the radar a bit because he's playing for a last place Greyhounds team. The momentum that he built up following a standout performance at the Hlinka/Gretzky has been lost a bit. Consistency has been a bit of an issue as the team works through their own struggles. Yet, those who follow the OHL closely understand what Martin brings to the ice on a nightly basis. This is a fierce competitor who also happens to be extremely skilled. His competitiveness is through the roof. He's a hunter on the ice. He hunts down loose pucks. He hunts down chances near the crease. He hunts down puck carriers. He's also as strong as an ox and he uses that to be an impact two-way player, although I'd say that he's slightly more physical in puck pursuit in the offensive end versus the defensive end at this current moment. From a skill perspective, Martin routinely turns defenders into pylons. According to our data through InStat, Martin leads the OHL this year in successful dekes completed and he's right near the top in hits per game. I'd say the only thing missing from Martin's game is high end skating ability. It's come a long way in the last calendar year. He now has some separation speed and he's become stronger on his edges. However, that still likely grades out as average for the next level. As an average sized pivot, albeit a physical one, that's still going to be concerning for some scouts. Ultimately, I think the U18's this year will go a long way as to determining Martin's eventual draft placement.

Some math on Brady Martin and his quest to be a complete player.

I like all three of these guys, and while Martin doesn’t have the Off stats of O’Brien or Martone, his stats reflect his responsible approach.

Porter Martone, Brampton
GP 40…26-50-76
Brampton GF: 213 GA: 195
Martone, plus-minus: +17

Jake O’Brien, Brantford
GP 52…26-46-72
Brantford GF: 203 GA: 175
O’Brien, plus-minus: -8

Brady Martin, Soo
GP 40…23-23-45
Soo GF: 154 GA: 190
Martin, plus-minus: +16 (tops on team)

Oh, Misa is a plus 37…need a little Lotto help there, as with Martone.

Starting to shift my mentality from BPA to needs....this f***ing Habs team needs NOT GIVING A f*** PLAYERS. Players that have enough talent to change the outcome of a game MIXED with players who aren't afraid of playing in the traffic. That will outwork you. That will confront the opposition.

No need anymore for shy players that are great 3 on 3 or on olympic ice surface when they're 2 hits every 10 games....

We won’t stay there. I think we draft 5OA or 6OA. If we don’t win one of the lotteries, we get one of Desnoyers or Frondell. And I love it.

Absolutely, if we get down and dirty to that area then one of those two is the ideal outcome.

If we can get one of them + Bear with the CAL pick I’m gonna be excited.

If they fall and get a chance at Misa, or Martone that would be awesome.

Caleb Desnoyers, Roger McQueen, Jake O'Brien, there's some nice pieces to add.

Mrtka could be a choice for the Habs unless they fall to like 4th, or 5th.

I wonder if Roger McQueen will fall outside the top 10, the Habs could trade up from Calgary's pick and grab him.

Leaving with Martone and McQueen seems like a dream

Mazden Leslie is a good late round choice at this point imo

I'd want Michael Misa at any cost.

shocked if he doesn't go @ 2 at this point. He's pulling away from the other players. Guess the OHL playoffs will decide it for him.

I would be targeting McQueen if we are picking # 11. Sounds like the injury concern has him down some draft boards. The kid is a hell of a player.

McQueen should be on everyone’s DND list, he’s this year’s Cayden Lindstrom / Kirby Dach.

Didn’t think we had a chance at Desnoyers, but things have changed quickly in the span of a couple of weeks
