Who's the perfect guy that fills a hole on our roster and how far down is he from #1? I would not draft by need but I am curious to see what others feel like is a need pick for us in this draft?
I mean that depends on what you think a need is. If you don't believe in Dach, probably a center. Grant has most of the top end centers in the top 5, so probably up there. But they could take any forward rated in the top 15 and I don't think anyone would criticize them.

This draft is pretty weak though from what I've seen so I wouldn't be surprised if they look to trade the picks.

Despite the hyperbole by Hab fans, we don't have a #1 d-man on the team or in the system.

Hutson will be that guy. However, I think most of us say it would be nice to bring in another RD.

In this draft, I would ignore team need and target BPA but someone with the size/skating combo. Someone who would have grade A prospect status and very attractive to other teams who are looking to trade a NHL top of the line-up piece to get younger. Usually, the smaller types like Caufield and Hutson don't have high trade value until they prove their worth in actual NHL games. So I say we should stay away from the smaller types

I think we are at the point where we need quality more than quantity. I would trade up for Desnoyers and Eklund, maybe Frondell personally.

Outside of the top 6-7, its going to be very hard to find a player who has the potential to improve our line-up signifiantly. Hage is a better prospect than any centers left and we dont really need middle 6 wingers either.

I would swing for the fence or trade the picks for a young established top 6 foward.

Habs apparently had 2 potential trades in the work if Demidov and Hage were off the board at 5 and 21. So Im expecting alot of action next draft if our scouts and GM dont really like what is coming up.
I think we may finally agree on a draft strategy haha

love Spence, if he's there between 10-15 take him and run

his offensive upside is getting severely underrated, the floor is everything else he brings which is a lot
Yeah in a post-Laine world he'd really be the perfect complement to Hage and Demidov if they both hit.

Considering our situation in the standing, my big reach for the upcoming draft is getting one of Desnoyers or Frondell. Will most probably need to trade up though.

The most important need is a #2 center because I don't think Dach is one and possibly Hage is more of a wing. Then it's a big defensive mobile right-handed defender and big power forward/enforcer wingers.

So Haggens,Misa,Desnoyers,Frondell,Obrien….then Hensler,Mrtka,Fiddler,Amico…and finally Spence,Zonnon,Genborg are good candidates

Victor Eklund could be a steal if he drop past the top 10. Play like his brother and William is already a first liner at 22.

I don't really see it with any of the 'top' RD's this year but I do like Brzustewicz in the ~2nd round.

He checks a lot of boxes if you consider what we're missing on the right side. 6'2, RD, above average skater who is comfortable playing low-event hockey. He was great with Dickinson when they were playing together earlier this year & that guy leaves a lot of coverage gaps for his partner to clean up.

More importantly, he showed that he's ready to handle a bigger role while Bonk/Dickinson were at the WJC's, with 7pts in 5 games. If he stays for next season I think we see a huge uptick in that area of his game.

Plus, landing London's upcoming 1D has been a winning strategy over the long run.

is Ryabkin russian for Tkachuck? Granted I've only watched his 2 USHL games (vs USNTDP) but he's a nasty little POS on the ice! :)

Fluid skating, responsible defensively, nice offensive IQ and players bounce off of him like Romanov in the good ole days.... what's not to like?!?

He didnt take his conditioning seriously coming into this year.. basically couldn't score or produce in the MHL or VHL this year. Attitude problems which led to him leaving for the USHL.

I'd definitely take the shot on him with the later of our two firsts but he's got warts that really impacted his stock this year.

tomorrow night on the NHL Network, what used to be called the Bio-Steel All American game, will take place.

where is Cameron Schmidt ???

Is Frondell still a top #5 potential ?

He has Schmidt 47th. Combinaison of his size and what he has been hearing about him in terms of character, apparently not the most liked in the locker room. He said it could still change.

For Frondell, I don’t agree on having him that high but he seems to be pretty high on the kid and the fact that he is a center puts him in a better position than some wingers.

It wouldn't surprise me if he's a DND for the Habs since he's shown to be pretty much everything this organization hates; garbage attitude on and off the ice, showed up with piss poor conditioning, gave up countless times and had the worst shifts in the MHL.

I went into the season excited about him but he's got my personal 2 very worst viewings of any DY prospect this season so far. His USHL debut has been alright but the warts are still there. He obviously has some amazing tools and I understand the interest but the kid seems like quite the headcase.
