Yeah, I don't know what people are expecting - getting Marleau out of literally any draft pick, including #1 overall, would be utterly fantastic, a tremendous success. We're talking about a player who is, at worst, a near-Hall of Famer.

If Will Smith turns into Marleau, Grier hit the ******* jackpot.
My main argument with Marleau was playstyle. If Smith develops a playstyle and has an effectiveness out there like Marleau, that's not ideal at all. But if he ends up with a point total anywhere close that obviously would be great. Maybe he can at least get a single trophy for all that hard work

But since he's the discussion, he was looking much better before the break. The last two games he has looked like Marleau's snakebitten twin out there aka not noticeable at f***ing all so it will be fun to see what happens the next few years.

The last 2 games smith has been invisible? What games were you watching? He had the 1 power play assist in the 2 games, be he hit a post, had a good chance on a breakaway and also set up a few other grade A chances.

And that argument of yours needs a serious reassessment because you're out to lunch thinking that way. Smith being Marleau would be an incredible result for any draft picks regardless of Marleau's warts.

If Marleau was identically cloned that would not be good for whatever team had him if they wanted to win a cup. Or anything really.

If this is the case, where Will is Patrick, and we don't win a cup, well then I guess Celebrini busts too?
I don't care enough to screenshot and put it here, but the trophy case for Thornton vs. Marleau on eliteprospects is beyond depressing.

Anyways, if the Sharks move Marleau in that 2008-2014 window specifically and get a more complete player, Thornton has at least one cup and Marleau still doesn't.

Celebrini will win a couple (lol) individual awards and won't stay long enough here to not win a cup,

Figured I'd check up on the conditions for that pick from the Avs from the Blackwood trade.

As a refresher: currently it's a 5th but becomes a 4th (probably theirs unless Vancouver pulls it together and leapfrogs them) if 2 of the following 3 happen:

1) The Avs make the conference finals
2) Blackwood starts 30+ games for Colorado between the time of the trade and the end of the regular season
3) Blackwood wins 25+ games for Colorado between the time of the trade and the end of the regular season.

Currently the Avs have 60 GP, so 22 games left on their schedule.

As of tonight Blackwood has started 23 games for the Avs (plus come in relief in 1 additional game) and posted a record of 15 wins, 7 losses, and 2 OT/SO losses. In that span the Avs have played 30 games in total, so he started 76% of their games in his time there and picks up a win about 62% of the time when he plays.

If those percentages hold up, he'd be in line for 17 or so more starts over the final 22 games and would maybe get 10 more wins.

In other words he'd be projected to finish with about 40 starts to significantly clear the GP threshold, and right bang at 25 wins.

Given that them making it to round 3 is a giant dice roll, we're probably looking like it's more likely than not that the Sharks only get the 5th rounder out of the trade unless they rip off big winning streak between now and the end of the season.

And what playstyle, pray tell, would you be referring to? One that nets a metric boatload of game-winning goals, including in the playoffs? Or perhaps one of a player that you're simply looking to make the scapegoat?

No, you're just not being a serious person on this because you still have an ax to grind for whatever silly emotional reason. Lots of players much worse than Marleau ever was have won Stanley Cups.
It's really not that deep man. I get you like Marleau hence your profile but he never won a single thing and that's all the discussion is. No human should ever strive to be a guy that shows up the most and has absolutely nothing to show for it in the end. Hopefully Smith is much more successful.

You didn't win any awards either, Roenick.

I know it's not that deep for you based on what you're posting here. It's why you need to do a genuine reassessment rather than just the superficial never won anything crap. If you think any player, past or present, thinks that Marleau has nothing to show for his career then you truly have no idea of what it is you're talking about here. You're just a hater, plain and simple. There's no substance to this critique of yours. It's just a whiny emotional clinging to your hate and nothing more.

When you have the chance to do drive-bys on the resume of one of the best players in franchise history 4 years after he played his last NHL game, you just gotta do it
 and every time I do for whatever reason, usually multiple people come to defend. Like WHAT'S THERE TO DEFEND??? HE NEVER WON ANYTHING TO DEFEND??? :eek3:

All jokes aside, people need to realize not everyone will like your favorite *soft* player. But I better not see any Pavelski slander here. More Pavelski less Marleau please William

I am CONSTANTLY thinking about just how often TMac put Brad Winchester on Jumbo's wing in 2012

It's the single biggest reason I'm not the present figure my loved ones deserve for me to be
I forgot about the Winchester-Thornton experiment because I was scarred from TJ Galiardi. The history of Thornton's various wingers would make an interesting documentary. Like a "where are they now?" sort of thing. I would watch that.

The stats for just how long did they survive the nhl away from thornton could be an interesting stat.

This makes me wonder:

Who is the most random, inconspicuous, insignificant Shark you can think of that left a significant negative impression on you. Not the obvious ultra-train-wreck guys. The ones where it's not immediately at the forefront of your mind that they were actually on the team, but once the memory clicks into place it just opens up the floodgates of bad vibes.
