I have no idea what he'll be at the NHL level, but Cagnoni is not a PP specialist in the AHL right now, good grief. He's even what I would consider to be "good" defensively at the AHL level.
Even if he's nothing more than an offensive specialist (he's not) who normally plays on the second power play unit and 3rd pairing, diversifying our point of attack prevents teams from focusing solely on our stars, and opens up scoring chances throughout the lineup. Lack of scoring depth was one of the main downfalls of the Wilson era, so Cagnoni being a capable QB at the NHL level would be a huge win, especially for a 4th rounder.Yeah it’s why I don’t think he is the best fit for the Sharks especially if they get Schaefer.
Would you rather Schaefer or Cagnoni running your top PP? This is a question some of the prospect experts can help answer. If Cagnoni can be PP1 over Schaefer or BDE then he would have value. If not then he won’t have value and is better being moved.
I think his career is destined to be on bad teams. If he is running your PP1 then the team doesn’t have a good enough #1D to be a contender. If he is not running your PP1 then he has no business on a contending team even in 3rd pairing minutes given his limitations 5v5.
He's too short and has too many power play points! I don't need to watch him play, I've got all the information I need.I have no idea what he'll be at the NHL level, but Cagnoni is not a PP specialist in the AHL right now, good grief. I also just won't believe that 83% of Cagnoni's points are on the PP. And I'm not going through this stats game by game to figure it out. He's too short and has too many power play points! I don't need to watch him play, I've got all the information I need.

Still more than I expected. I would have guessed like 60%, based on watching him.View attachment 980896
It’s only 69%.
I agree 100%. It’s not necessarily surprising, but I guess confusing to see people actively rooting against or denigrating a player having a very successful rookie season in the AHL. Especially considering he barely even made the age cutoff to play in the AHL this year.Still more than I expected. I would have guessed like 60%, based on watching him.
Anyway, the point is that I want to give Cagnoni every opportunity to succeed before writing him off.

Oh boy, I hate to shit in your Cheerios, but real life Rudy is kind of an asshole and most of that movie was very untrue. We can all agree that it would be amazing to have Cagnoni hit, and I agree that it's not very likely.Rudy is one of my favorite movies
If Cagnoni makes it to the NHL as a third pairing #2 PP QB, it's a win for a fourth round pick. Anything above that is an even bigger win. I'm gonna wait until he establishes he can't play at the NHL level before saying he can't.Since when is being realistic about the prospects of a player actively rooting against him?
I absolutely want Cagnoni to make it to the NHL as a top 4 D.
At the same time be realistic that, last time I checked Jared Spurgeon is the only sub 5’10” D that gets consistent minutes in the NHL. In addition to being sub 5’10” Cagnoni does not have Hughes or Markar level skating which is generally required for any 5’10” or 5’11” D to be a strong top 4 option.
It is always nice to root for the little guy. It helps everyone sitting on the couch watching think “if only I tried harder I could have made it” since not everyone is 6’3”. Rudy is one of my favorite movies, but it is wrong to ignore that Hockey is an inherently physical game where it is incredibly rare for players significantly shorter to succeed. It doesn’t mean it is impossible nor that I’m not rooting for them. I simply choose to also be rational and not expect it to happen.
I choose to disregard anything from TMZ. They aren’t known for factual reporting. Joe Montana Tears Holes in 'Rudy'
Joe Montana has some issues with the way his former college team was portrayed in "Rudy" -- because the former Notre Dame superstar just insinuated Rudy Ruettiger was more of a joke than an inspiration.www.tmz.com
Okay, but the article is just quoting Joe Montana, who was on the team, and says that nobody threw in their jerseys, he was carried off as kind of a joke, and he didn't work harder than anyone else. And many other sources about how real life Rudy is kind of an asshole. Great fictional movie.I choose to disregard anything from TMZ. They aren’t known for factual reporting. I love that movie.

You may think you’re being realistic but you’re just relying on trends to make your judgment. And while that is a fine approach when looking at a large data set, when analyzing an individual, you can’t just lump them into that group and say definitively that they can’t play above 3rd pairing minutes. It’s a lazy take and a clear indication that you haven’t watched the player much at all. If the reports from people who have watched him were less optimistic then I would understand your take, especially if his performance was on par with other failing or failed prospects. However, quite the opposite is taking place, and you’re still choosing to lump him in with the failures.Since when is being realistic about the prospects of a player actively rooting against him?

A walk on at Notre Dame doesn’t get dressed and put into a game for no reason. There is something there. It’s probably embellished to make a better movie. I’m ok with that.Okay, but the article is just quoting Joe Montana, who was on the team, and says that nobody threw in their jerseys, he was carried off as kind of a joke, and he didn't work harder than anyone else. Rudy is the worst movie ever made. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
He can't play above 3rd pairing minutes because no coach is going to risk having a smurf offenseman on the ice against McDavid or Eichel or MacKinnon. You may think you’re being realistic but you’re just relying on trends to make your judgment. Hated sharing the limelight
My movie-hating origin story begins with my ninth grade PE teacher playing a sports movie every single time we had a rainy day and greater than 50% of the time it was Rudy. Gag.Wait, is Rudy the one movie you’ve seen?! Is that your origin story?
