Yup, if you finish 1st (last) and win the lottery to stay at 1st then that isn't a win.and a win is defined as "moving up"
That is why we are still eligible for this draft and also the mckenna draft still.

Here are the current lottery rulesSomeone correct me if I'm wrong, but since CHI already won a lottery for 1OA pick, they can't win 1OA if they're not last place. So let's say we get the worst record and CHI 2nd worst, if CHI win the first draw, they would redraw until another team wins? If that's the case, our chances of getting 1OA would be even higher if Chicago isn't the worst team.
If above scenario is true, it's even more important that CHI isn't getting that last place.

I fully anticipate that if the Sharks do indeed draft #1OA this year, the league, somehow outside of the standard CBA process, will enact rule changes to preclude San Jose from drafting #1OA by lottery or otherwise for like 10 years. Why? Because somewhere in the past we all fell into the shorksiest timeline and it’s all an inevitability.
Next year: "You're only allowed to have one lottery win at a time. So because you won the 2025 lottery we're retroactively taking away your 2024 lottery win. Therefore Macklin Celebrini is now a Chicago Blackhawk."
Grier: "But wouldn't that mean the Blackhawks have 2 lottery wins in a row for '23 and '24?"
Bettman: "Keep it up and we'll take Dickinson too."

Misa would be a good pick if it's not #1OA. We could use the center depth.Im still not expecting to pick #1 and I am guessing we leave with Misa.
I'm never quite sure what to think about Bruzstewicz, and I've seen a lot of him. Decent at everything, great at nothing. Shocked to see him over Mrtka and Fiddler, to be honest.Surprise! Pronman's mid season rankings have some shockers (reminder that he's maligned as a scout but he has good contacts in the league and seems to have a decent beat on how pro scouts are thinking about the draft):
1. Schaefer
2. Hagens
3. Misa
4. Desnoyers (told you so? Or his token "hot take")
5. Martone
6. Eklund
7. McQueen
8. Frondell
9. Aitcheson
10. O'Brien
11. J. Smith
12. Bear
...
19. Bruzstewicz
20. Mrtka
22. Fiddler
23. Schmidt
Makes me hopeful that maybe a guy like Amico falls to 33...
He's been #1 on virtually every list that's come out and by a lot. It's not Celebrini vs. the field at this point, but I think people need to stop hoping that some team like Chicago is going to pass on what appears to be the clear best player in the class. If you want him, you have to get the first pick.I think the other teams in our points range need Forwards so even if we don't win the lottery we might get Schaefer
Somehow not playing is helping him because Hags isn't doing enoughHe's been #1 on virtually every list that's come out and by a lot. Someone went with the simple "Suffer for Schaefer" and I think that's the one.Can we change the title to “Race for Schaefe(r)”?
As a reminder, @Juxtaposer will make the title change for the thread whenever she wants before the lottery.Someone went with the simple "Suffer for Schaefer" and I think that's the one.
I can't even remember how we played it last year. Did we change it right before the lottery? As a reminder, @Juxtaposer will make the title change for the thread whenever she wants before the lottery.
Internal rhyme is underrated but I was told no changes. Then again, that might have just been people trying to not be mean to my "break like a wafer for Schaefer" idea. Can we change the title to “Race for Schaefe(r)”?
Jeez man, way to single me out!As a reminder, @Juxtaposer will make the title change for the thread whenever she wants before the lottery.
It was well before the lottery. I think if I remember it was before the season ended when the Sharks went on a small run before losing to end the season.I can't even remember how we played it last year. Did we change it right before the lottery?
@/slocal let me pretend, okay!!!
This is the best one IMO.How about Pray-fer Scheafer.
I genuinely can't remember anymore. Should we just call it after the trade deadline and change it then?It was well before the lottery. I think if I remember it was before the season ended when the Sharks went on a small run before losing to end the season.
* but I might be confused with how last season ended and the year before when Toews screwed up the breakaway in the 3rd period of the final game.
I think it was within a week or a few days before the lottery...But, then I'm old -- I saw the -OV line play in person....I can't even remember how we played it last year. Did we change it right before the lottery?
@/slocal let me pretend, okay!!!
Good memory. I know it will rustle @slocal 's jimmies but let's stay consistent and be patient until then.Yes. It was within a week or a few days before the lottery...
Sorry, I'm just extremely superstitious. I know my rhyming sucked and many have asked to re-name it. I just want to repeat the magic from last year where @Juxtaposer renamed before the lottery and we won the #1 pick. Also, I will repeat a promise from last year -- If Sharks don't win #1 pick, this is the last draft thread I am starting. G-d help us get our 1D...Jeez man, way to single me out!
