NFL GDT: 2025 NFL DRAFT Thread

Shough is Brandon Weeden 2.0 and Gabriel has no future in the NFL. No matter what you think of Sanders and his media circus, he's miles better than both guys and could give you starter reps one day and I'm not even that high on the guy but this is insanity. If the Jets weren't a clown show team, I'd love him in NY but I think they'd probably the one spot that shouldn't draft him at all or even if the insanity of him being a UDFA happens then that too.
Is he and could he?

If Sanders isn't close to starter level now, and NFL teams are pretty clearly saying that he isn't, what is he going to develop that will make him starter level after he sits for a while?

The biggest appeal of Sanders is that he's a pretty polished product. He doesn't have any superpower that can be unlocked if he just improves in other areas, like Milroe who just needs to learn to play the quarterback position. Gabriel has a great arm. Shough is the prototypical QB body. Dart has a great name. What does Sanders really have?

Add in that teams likely, and justifiably, believe that the system was built to maximize Sanders's strengths in Colorado.

No one besides Ward is probably a Day 1 guy and I have issues with him too. The thing is Sanders should be sitting but his presence won't allow that. It's similar to the Kapernick stuff, teams have shown that they don't want to sign guys with a massive media presence who are most likely backups.

The big media presence definitely plays in, but the biggest thing to me regarding Sanders as a developmental player is that I don't see what part of Sanders makes it worth trying to develop him. He's not all of a sudden going to turn into an athletic QB at age 25. He's probably not going to develop a big arm.

So why not pick a QB with those attributes and hope to develop some of the throwing ability Sanders has instead?

Some talking heads have hit on this, but even if Sanders is (let's say) the 3rd best QB in the draft right now, that doesn't mean he has the 3rd highest ceiling. And so the moment the switch in the draft flipped from "potential starter draft pick" to "developmental backup draft pick" his value as a pick may have tanked

I mean, that's true. I'm not the biggest fan of his game, he reminds me a lot of Geno coming out WVU but even Geno was a second rounder in a HORRID QB class. Geno had some of his own baggage too with scouts and his attitude pre draft too, I think this is a lot of the NFL saying to Deion or anyone in the future not to play with peoples careers before they get in the league fully

Yeah, I think it's a mix of the NFL rapping Sanders on the fingers, some genuine concern that he would be a headache, a condemnation of the idea that he is starter quality, and saying that he doesn't have a special ability worth developing other abilities for.

Yeah, it's pretty evident that the league doesn't think he's good also because the Ravens took a guy who was the leading sack guy in college ball last year with sexual assault allegations. It matters if you can football first and foremost and the league doesn't think he can at a high enough level.

So… when’s the CFL draft for Sanders?
I get this a joke, but CFL draft is next week, April 29. However CFL draft is for Canadians only. Americans are first come first serve. And if arm strength is his question mark, we'll he wouldn't thrive in a league with a field that's 10% longer and 30% wider (you need a cannon in CFL to hit the wide side passes, it's a LOONG way outside lol).

I am not familiar with the CFL, is there any organization there that isn't serious about winning and just wants attention and clicks above all else?

Because if so Sanders is perfect for them.

NFL teams will ignore the bullshit to some degree if they know the guy can ball at a high level. Sanders isn't a bad prospect but when you consider what comes with him, his talent just isn't overwhelming enough to counteract the distraction and baggage that he brings.

I didn’t realize Mel Kiper had Sanders going to the Saints in round 1. Everyone in local media knew there was zero chance of that.

I imagine more than anything it’s the fear of the helicopter dad who has serious media clout. Not hard to see why that’s an unappealing combo to most teams.

Yup.

Teams and locker rooms don't want huge distractions, however those come to pass. They'll only ignore it to a point if the player is worth it.

Hello UFL.

Skattebo a good risk/reward play. Not sure that the Giants will be the ones to maximize that, would rather he have gone to a team like the Bills.

Probably a fair comment. Arch kept quiet and let Peyton and Eli do their thing after the draft. I think NFL clubs don't want extra distractions of a NCAA HC criticizing their team during the season.

NFL teams will absolutely put up with stuff so long as the play on the field warrants it. Clearly, NFL teams don't think it is. That's where the Sanders camp didn't take a step back and realize he wasn't Luck/Lawrence coming out or the Mannings to call his shot.

One thing for Deion to say, "there are clubs that I hope my son doesn't end up on as being a former Pro, I know that some clubs clearly are not capable of developing players at certain positions, especially at QB." That was fair. Basically what the Mannings thought of the chargers. But, the fact that Shedeur apparently tanked the interviews vs just decline them is a bad sign.

Now, Sanders is going to be a QB3 for any club that drafts him. If he doesn't go in rd 4, it's going to be borderline whether he would be on the 53 man roster or assigned to the PS. Seen plenty of guys go in Rd 5 that end up on the PS. Rds 6-7 guys, a good number don't make the 53 man roster as a rookie.

Jets just got a fit for Fields. Someone who he can hurl the ball down field when he doesn’t know what to do
