Whomever cleared Halliburton to play should be banned from the Association.

Any type of strained calf can lead to an Achilles injury. Someone has to be able to tell Halliburton, NO.

I blame the staff and front office of the Pacers for putting their star in danger. Of course he wants to play. Someone didn't have the balls or guts to tell him NO. Disgusting.

Congrats to OKC. Hate what Bennett did to Seattle but they have some great fans in OKC and I wanted to see SGA and Dort win. No offense to the Canadians on the Indy side.

One of the greatest guard seasons ever for SGA. Racked up every meaningful individual accolade and then a ring to cap it off. I was glad to see none of the stupid foul stuff came up in the finals either and it seemed like a lot more people appreciated his game.

Gotta feel for Haliburton and Indy. What a gut punch right at the start of the game that also basically ends next season for them before it even begins.

I think moving forward you have to sit your star player if they have any type of calf strain that'll normally keep them out a few weeks, even if it means playing without them with your season on the line. Ignore all of the toughness stuff and do what's in the best interest of your player and franchise for the long-term. This is where you see how different basketball and certain injuries are on the body. Every playoffs we see the comparisons between NHL players playing with broken bones vs. NBA players sitting for soft tissue stuff and the jokes fly. This is potentially career altering/threatening stuff.

Yeah, calf strains causing NBA players to sit out for weeks if not months at a time used to get laughed at. I've been guilty of it, too.

I see now why these guys take every precaution with calf strains. Achilles tears are career altering. He's never going to be the same again, ditto Tatum and Lillard.

Sucks for Haliburton and the Pacers, but the risk of further injury was definitely worth the reward of a championship. Who knows if Haliburton will ever get back to the Finals and be one game away from winning a championship again. This is what you play for, and you're too close to not try to play through injury if you're able to, and Haliburton was playing very well for over a game with a strained calf before the achilles. Dude also already has his bag, so he's set for life either way.

Edit: NHL players have all sorts of injuries that come out after they're eliminated in the playoffs, or win the cup. Look at the injury to Matthew Tkachuk. He probably shouldn't have been playing in the playoffs either, but we celebrate how much of a warrior he is by playing through it and winning the cup.

Anyone who says this isn't good for the NBA are grumpy old hats. New year, new champions are pretty good for any sport. As much as people glamour for dynasties, new champs a year is pretty exciting. A team who hasn't won before could win the next year.

Having teams able to win back to back or even a 3 or 4 peat means that team is great. We all know that luck plays into a championships at times, everything coming together at the right time<a team who is unstoppable and can figure out the rest of the league consistently. Having Lebron go to the finals 8 straight years is not a good look but having Goldenstate beat teams soundly or SA, is a sign of excellent coaching and team construction. I just hope the superteam era is finally over now that all of these teams have won. OKC deserves to become the next dynasty because they built their team off of the mistakes the rest of the league made in their pursuit to win no matter what.

I'm going to guess his recent MRI showed structural weaknesses and that this was extremely preventable.

JMHO. His game isn't like Durant's who is a pure shooter. Really tough to watch.
