2025 Musings and News: Tis the Off-season

He's baaack.

from sportsnet.ca:

Wide receiver Michael Gallup has come out of retirement to sign with the Washington Commanders, the team announced Thursday.

The former Dallas Cowboys receiver has been out of the NFL since last off-season after walking away from a deal he signed with the Las Vegas Raiders.

The 29-year-old also reportedly visited the Seattle Seahawks earlier this week before joining the Commanders.

Gallup spent the first six seasons of his career with the Cowboys. The former third-round pick's best work came five years ago, when he set career highs in receptions (66), receiving yards (1,107) and touchdowns (six). The 2019 campaign is the only year he eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards.

He's a bum and has sucked for years. They'd be better off rolling the dice on Hunter Renfrow or someone who can still get downfield. Nothing to lose by signing him though I suppose.

Charles Davis is replacing Gary Danielson on college football.

These April fools get more ridiculous every year.

Just joking, he's probably better than Rodgers in 2025.

They do three games on Thanksgiving, may as well on Christmas when it’s a Thursday

McAfee's such a tool.
It's weird because he is someone who, at least at one time, was known as someone who would leave the money on the table if he thought you were an asshole. Soon after he joined WWE, there was rumors he was going to leave because he didn't like how Vince got away with smarmy shit.

Yeah I used to like him and he can still be funny at times but his head seems to have exploded. Probably a side effect of hanging out with Rodgers.

Big stumbling block is for ATL and the other club to figure out who would cover the remaining money due to Cousins.

Base salary of $27.5 mill in 2025.
Since he was still on ATL's roster after day 5 of the 2025 league year, his $10 mill roster bonus for 2026 is guaranteed.

So, he is due $37.5 mill still.

Can ATL and the other club decide on how to split that amount between them? ATL has paid Cousins $62.5 mill and taken a $25 mill cap charge on him. Have $37.5 mill left to hit their cap. If they do end up trading him post June 1, they would eat $12.5 mill in 2025 and $25 mill in 2026. And add in whatever they would agree to pick up on his contract from the other club.

Geno with a 2 year extension with LV. $75 mill with $66 mill in guarantees. Has incentives which can go up to $85 mill.

He had 1 more year on his current deal but I would imagine Geno is given a SB which pushes up the cap hit for this season.

So, it’s $33 mill per in guaranteed money. So he’s their guy for 25 and 26 seasons. Can walk away after that.

That's actually not bad. Way better deal for the Raiders than I was expecting them to hand out.

Cousins seems to be shut out of luck

There's an internet theory that he could go back to the Vikings with them taking on some of his salary for a pick, since they are pick poor this year. Then they can just cut him next spring. It's mostly speculated because the way the Vikings have done their contracts in FA, and designating Bradbury a post-June 1, when there was no reason to do that, kicking a lot of cap down the road, that they might be up to something. They still have like 25m to spend at the moment. And they don't have anyone other than Brett Rypien behind McCarthy at the moment.

I think Cleveland was probably his best fit if he got cut like Wilson did. Can play on the minimum for a cash strapped team, for his former OC.

Geno had no more guaranteed money on his current year left on his Seattle deal. So I’m sure that $66 mill guaranteed has a SB to cover him in 2025. And or they guaranteed his base salary for 2025.

But it’s a 2 year commitment to Geno.

With a much lower cap hit than was rumored.
