I'd honestly rather sign Rodgers over Darnold. Less risk, it'll only be a one year deal and there's a very high chance Darnold does not keep up this level of play now that he won't be with KOC.

There really aren't a lot of great non-division options on the Eagles schedule, the Bears just don't feel like an opening night opponent to me, I would probably lean towards Dallas or Washington, though I feel like they usually stay away from divisional matchups for the opener

The reason why the Bears are attractive are because everyone’s going to watch the game anyways. You don’t need that kind of marquee divisional or playoff revenge matchup. You can save those.

Yeah but that is not what they usually do is it? The first game is usually a playoff rematch or some other big matchup over the past 5 or so years

it's a huge market, but the team still sucks, and has for the better part of a decade, I don't think many people outside of Chicagoland would choose that game if they had to pick one for the Eagles to open with, it is at best probably the 5th or 6th best matchup, but it doesn't really matter, it is opening night, and the champs, and they could be playing Jacksonville and it would grab a monster number

Phi hosts Detroit, Denver, Las Vegas, Chicago and Rams outside their division. I said on other threads that I think the Rams are the safe bet, so long as they don't do anything odd like trade Stafford, then that would take them out of the running.

Detroit is the best matchup, but likely the NFL would prefer that game later in the season vs opening night which should do very good numbers. I think Chicago has a chance if the NFL believes that they will have improved their OL enough to give a decent matchup with Ben Johnson calling plays. The risk of picking a team with a weak OL is what we got in the SB vs KC as PHI will return a lot of their DL next season.

Wash is a candidate, but like Detroit, that game will do well later in the season in terms of numbers.

Hard to say. KC the last 2 seasons opened vs Bal and Det. Now, keep in mind there is a set matrix for their opponents and whom they host.

Bal was a great matchup, but their other options were NO/TB/Cin/Hou. I thought Houston with Stroud would have made sense, but they opted for that game to be the Holiday stand alone game instead.

NFL won't give a weak matchup. But, doesn't need to be a great one. KC had Detroit to open up 2023.
Rams got Buffalo in 2022. Their options were Den/LV/Dal/Car/ATL. Dal had opened up vs TB the prior season, so of the other non division options, they had to go Buffalo for quality.

TB got Dallas in 2021.

They are likely playing the Rams in Australia and that might very well be Game 1 in 2026.
