I’m always up for this tournament.

The athletic podcast thinks there’s only three teams worth a shit this year. Canada, US and Sweden. They think Finland is toast unless Helenius has an unreal tournament. They don’t think highly of the rest of their group…or what’s coming up behind them either.

They also mentioned that the host city, Ottawa, only has one player in the tournament and it’s the Kazakhstan goalie who is going to get shelled and relegated. Which is tough. Carter Yakemchuk was Carter Yakemcut before they even made their camp list.

Consistently produces some of the most exciting hockey of the season. It's must-watch every year.

Ya, I'm interested in how the Sabres prospects fare, but the tourney itself is hockey magic.

Anyone lurking in this thread who has never watched - do yourself a favor.

On a sabres note for the tournament…I can’t stop thinking about a reply to Baker tweeting out the players in our organization heading to the tourney. Someone made the most deceptively stupid post under it. Basically saying that the Sabres problem is that they don’t have anyone on team Canada. That this is their organizational failure.

Think about this for one second. The WJC only includes people from the last two drafts and a draft that hasn’t happened yet. Essentially…unless you picked a Canadian player in with one of TWO first round picks in that time period you have basically zero chance. Even then…you might have invested a high 1 and your player wouldn’t get picked. Mentioned Yakemchuk already. 7th overall. Didn’t even get to camp.

So it’s surface level stupid. But it’s actually worse. BECAUSE ZACH BENSON WOULD HAVE BEEN PLAYING ON THE FIRST LINE OF THIS CANADIAN TEAM IF HE HADN’T MADE THE NHL AT 18. They actually overshot this person’s complaint. It’s a perfect combination of arrogance in believing you found a big flaw…and ignorance of the entire situation. I have to try to forget I saw it…because I randomly start laughing like a lunatic about it and people are starting to stare.
