Nah.

Never get fooled by a hot goalie over the course of a 2 week tournament. Lots of examples of these guys not turning out.

Also, 5’11” not ideal for the modern NHL goaltender.

He's been excellent in the Finnish league too.

ya Ritchie should absolutely be in play come the trade deadline, he's a ways off and I'm not sure he's much to write home about anyway.
I agree. Pretty disappointed with him.

I am sorry but when it comes to goalies in the NHL I am a Size Queen. I don't like drafting goalies under 6'2". Some turn out good/really good obviously but the odds are against them.

With that said there are plenty of bad goalies with size. I want the Avs to draft athletic goalies with size. IMO those have the best chance to succeed in the NHL. With all things being equal I believe a bigger goalie covers more of the net so when he has a bad day at the office he has more chance to stop the puck due to his size alone. Obviously size alone is far from being enough but it helps a lot.

Waiting for whenever Bednar eventually gets let go seems like it makes a lot of sense. Would be a very Avs kind of pick. He's still young he can take his time at DU.
Some of these college coaches can become an institution unto themselves. I'm not so sure why a long serving collge HC would want to move the NHL where the average tenure on the job is like 3.5 years.

Until very recently the money wasn't that different. In fact with the new NCAA rules, I have no idea how that is going to impact coaching salaries but it probably will and it will probably cause them to rise.

True. They all dream of a Stanley Cup though. They can go back to coaching in the NCAA later if they want.

Somebody like Carle could fail miserably in the NHL and still have plenty of suitors at the college ranks.

One huge difference for coaches of NCAA and Junior leagues is that their message never goes stale especially with top players because they are gone usually after 1-2 years. The kids that stay longer will follow the new top players coming in if they buy into the system which they usually do.

No way in hell will the Avs pay him what he’ll eventually get at the NHL level.

I'm not sure what a successful NCAA/rookie NHL coach would command.

The Avs typically go after rookie NHL head coaches and don't pay them much. But they also paid a successful junior/rookie NHL head coach in Roy pretty well. Think he was making $3M, which I believe at the time was among the highest.

They're also paying Bednar $4.75M, he's among the highest paid in the league now. So they'd probably save money with Carle either way.

@Pokecheque Jim Mongomery was a pretty successful NCAA coach and he's making $1.9M with Boston. Unlikely he made more than that as a rookie head coach with Dallas.

So that's less than half the average NHL coaching salary, and less than half what Bednar is making.

I think the Avs would pay $2M or so for Carle. For Carle, it might be more about the fit, than the money anyway. He's still young. He can get a big raise on his second contract.

Pokecheque

I’ve been told it’s spelled “Pokecheck”

I’ll be happy if it plays out that way but completely shocked too.
