I don't think the entire off-season hinges on signing Juan Soto.

I actually like Mayer the least of any of the top RedSox top prospects , and would have no problem if they traded him for a top starter or even for a big bat like Rooker. Mayer seems to have injury issues each year. While I think he will be a solid big leaguer, I think he is more above average than star quality (not anything wrong with that). I think his value won't be higher, and if the Sox signed someone like Adames it could block Mayer. I also like the upside of Kristian Campbell more. All my opinion only.

He’s basically a LF and they got Duran

CF & RF in a very good spot (Rafaela, Abreu, Anthony)

personally my plan

1. Go after Soto if he said I’ll sign with you all things equal

But

2. I would have not figured we had even a punchers chance and gone after

One of Burnes or Fried and if no luck: Sean Manaea

That we are in the Soto stuff is kind of crazy but hey it’s interesting
