2025 HHoF: Who would you vote for?

I said Chara, Mogilny and Tkachuk.

Chara is a no-brainer.

Mogilny's stats were hampered some by injury, but more than 1000 points, better than ppg, and what would have been 500 goals if not for time missed is a hall of fame career imo. He was a dynamic offensive player in the early part of his career and became a more well-rounded player later on. Come up in 20 years since he retired. Long overdue imo.

Tkachuk scored more than 500 goals and 1000 points. He was a preeminent power forward. The numbers fall off after 30, but I think the work done before that warrant entry.

Price, Rinne, and others deserve entry, but they can wait a year.
Joe Thornton says hi

Price will get in but imho he shouldn’t, once he signed his big contract, his career tanked outside the covid Canadian division year and his fluke run

Thornton will get in but, again, not mentioning him doesn't = exclusion. Chara was a dominant force and Tkachuk and Mogilny are long over due.

Chara, Thornton, Price, Keith, Getzlaf, Elias, Gonchar, Mogilny and Zetterberg for me are HHOF'ers. The rest no. As for the 2025 class - first four I named should be in, the rest will have to wait. Gonchar and Elias will have to wait for a long time but they will sneak in a weak year. Getzlaf and Zetterberg will sooner be in the HHOF.

Chara, Keith, Thornton and Price are pretty automatic imo. I’m not as high on Price as some others, but ultimately he hit heights the rest of the list didn’t and is quite decorated outside of winning a cup/Smythe.

I would have Zetterberg, Getzlaf and Elias in as well if it wasn’t maxed out. Still not 100% on Mogilny but I wouldn’t argue with it.

The first 4, obviously.

Side note - as a huge Price supporter (ie, you wont' find many around here who think more highly of him), I think it's absolutely idiotic and ridiculous he's eligible. He still has an actice NHL contract - which means he isn't retired. It should be 4 years after retirement. But since he is eligible, I voted for him.

If I had to vote, I'd go Thornton and Chara, who are two sure things. Keith also deservers to be there.
It gets trickier for the last one. I think Mogilny deserves to be there and he would get my vote. Price would be inducted in 2026. I don't think that's what will happen. Mogilny's been ignored for many years and I can't see Price being ignored by the voters. I don't see Mogilny getting in with such a strong class.

Calm down. I'm not saying he isn't deserving. Of course he is. I simply chose three, and two of them are overdue imo. If I were to pick 4, which is the max allowed in a year, he's an obvious choice.
So if you think he’s deserving, why wouldn’t you just pick 4?

Price is a weird one. He was an exceptional talent, but only made one All-Star team. He was a great goaltender in the playoffs, but because he played for the Habs he only made it out of the 2nd round once. His peak was crazy high, but because of injuries it only lasted for 2 seasons, and almost all of his arguments for the Hall are isolated from 2014 to 2015.

How does Keith only have 59% of the vote? That means 41% of the voters aren't qualified to talk hockey.

For that matter, how are Thornton/Keith/Chara not all at 100%?

They are no brainer shoe-ins. The only interesting discussion is should a 4th person even be inducted.

I honestly think maybe not. Mogilny, Zetterberg, Price, and Getzlaf are right there for me as the upper limit of players I don't want in the HOF to hold a high standard. I voted Price since I know he's going in regardless of what I think.

Who are the lunatics that wouldn’t vote for Duncan Keith?

3 Cups
Conn Smythe
2 Olympic Gold medals
2 Norris Trophies

All as a #1 Dman

What else could he possibly need?

I wouldn’t say his argument is at all isolated to 2014/15. Every healthy season between 2011 and 2019 he finished at least 4th in AS/Vezina voting. His save percentage across that entire period was a .920, highest of any goalie with an appreciable number of games (unless you count Ben Bishop’s .921 but he still played 130 fewer games).

During that period, Price was pretty clearly a top tier goalie. Yes he had injury issues which impact his awards record, but he left little doubt that he was right there with Lundqvist and perhaps Rinne as the best goalies of that decade.

And then of course he was a playoff monster as well. Not just a Smythe worthy performance to get his team to a Finals they had no business in, but also a combined .925 across 62 playoff games from 2013-21. In particular, their 2014 win over Boston and 2020 win over Pittsburgh were huge upsets that can be written up largely to Price.
