More and more convinced Hagens may get to us. I think there is zero shot Martin does. And like 10% chance for O’Brien. So maybe 30% that Hagens falls to us? I kinda think we should just take Eklund, be happy to get a competitive, high motor, middle 6er and move on to next year instead of trying to get cute.

pens trade up to 4OA with Utah using the ‘26 NYR pick

Martone suddenly taken at 3rd by Chicago so we panic select McQueen

NYR sucks, Utah gets McKenna next year

Tristan Jarry plays like an all star and we draft 14th

McQueen is constantly hurt and traded 4 years later for pennies on the dollar. Breaks out a la Vilardi for his second team

It's from his podcast, yesterday's episode with Greg Wyshynski. About 27 minutes in they touch on the Penguins briefly. It actually starts with a joke about Knies ending up in a Pens uniform, then Marner, then McKenna. All tongue in cheek.

But Marek does say very briefly that it sounds to him like the Penguins are one of the teams that wants to move up. But he immediately counters it by saying those rumors always come around and then teams just make their picks.

Yeah people always fantasize about that but it rarely seems to actually happen. And when it does it's often a team going from like 13th to 11th or something. Not the 11th to 4th or 5th jump people dream about.

I know it was a precursor to drafting Yager, but according to Scouching, Clark/Dubas also took Lane Hutson to two dinner dates back in 2022, never took Minten, and obviously drafted Minten over Hutson. My hope is all of them except Eklund are gone by the time Pens draft at #11.

How do the two remotely play the same game besides being big and Cs? Am I just watching all the wrong clips of McQueen and not realizing it?

From what I've seen of McQueen, the one thing I could see that is somewhat comparable is when he gathers speed and carries the puck up ice, he has a bit of that young Geno gallop through the neutral zone.

I have Hagens above Misa but I think it’s fair to put him 9. I think this class is a mess and the only thing I’m confident about is Schaefer being head and shoulders above everyone else which means he inevitably is like the 7th best player in a redraft 10 years from now.

I love Eklund but it’s fair to question upside imo. He profiles more like a 45 point player even though the tools are solid
