Prospect Info: 2025 Draft: We are #1….1

So two writers are doing a mock draft based on their two lists but it's totally not a mock draft.

Again...whatever. It was an order that suggested a draft order based on the thoughts of the contributors.

What. the. f***. ever.
I just answered the question of "what's the difference?" I'm not saying it really matters all that much!

At least the combine is this coming week. I'm so bored of waiting for the draft and something to happen. Maybe some teams will start making trades this week like they did last year.

From this draft I would be happy getting a player that is a 40-50 point guy that does other things when not scoring.

Kinda related:

Someone in the prospects forum who allegedly had NHL scouting experience said something to the effect of:

"In the later rounds you should be targeting players with unique attributes. Not a jack of all trades master of none player."

This was a few years ago so I might be misremembering.

Kinda what the Pens did with Mac Swanson and his playmaking.

Not sure if others agree but I buy into this philosophy.
I agree and I'd include not just the later rounds.

Okay, so hear me out. I was bored at work the last 2 days and dove into Jackson Smith a lot after seeing a few clips of him the last few weeks (despite disliking his game at the U18s)... Don't hate him anymore. :help:

Something that depresses me greatly is not having the 2nd round pick we gave to Montreal so we can use it to draft Bill Zonnon.

If you asked me to rank the most fun I've had cutting mixtapes, I think this is the order based on fun. Not like player skill or ceiling. Like players I had the most fun watching.

1. Justin Carbonneau
2. Brady Martin
3. Bill Zonnon
4. Malcolm Spence
5. Anton Frondell's 10 games in Djurgardens Jr
6. Kashawn Aitcheson
7. Ben Kindel

I just can't get into drafting these dudes then having to wait for 5-7 years for them to develop. I was much more excited for the rebuild in my younger years. Now I'm totally apathetic to it.

Agreed. It's tough reminding myself that the 12ov pick (if NYR give it to us) will yield a better player than if we trade back, I really like the idea of letting Montreal trade up and doing 12+61 for 16+41. There's oddly several guys in that range that I would take a look at, especially if we miss on a center at 11.

11 - Eklund
16 - Bear
41 - McKinney

That would be a solid draft.

I think a lot of it... at least speaking for myself... is that we all know deep down that the chances of getting even another Kris Letang are kinda slim. Nevermind another Malkin. Double nevermind another Crosby. And CERTAINLY not all three at once.

It's a little exhausting already to think about the wake of busts we're likely about to go through for the next ten+ years.

To be fair, we have had a ton of busts already. Name our last 1st round pick that did anything here.

If you don't count Owen Pickering, I'm at Jordan Staal.

The absolute DISRESPECT put on Beau's name, here!

But no really... Maatta? I guess Esposito was TRADED for something great. That's about all I got.

This has already been said, but if the Rangers hand over the pick this year, I wouldn't be at all surprised for the Penguins to try to trade down with it to get an extra 2nd rounder.

I think Despres would have been a pretty good player had the concussions not derailed him.

His playoffs with the Ducks directly post-trade was pretty dynamic. Not blow-your-doors off amazing or anything but he had size and some offensive instincts.

He had some great tools and would have been interesting to see if he could put them together consistently if it hadn't been for the concussions.

He was great for the Ducks even outside of that playoffs.
