Prospect Info: 2025 Draft: We are #1….1

I like Bear. I actually think he’s talented. I still struggle to rate what his upside could be. I think he could be similar to Trevor Moore? Both in style and role/scoring ability.

Schaefer
Misa
Frondell
Desnoyers
Hagens
O’Brien
McQueen
Martone
Martin
Eklund

Bear at 11 for us

I’d prefer Mrtka in this scenario (I find it hard to believe he’ll be there).

I think McQueen going 7th was interesting.
this is about what i think will happen, but I'm hoping a few teams will want a d-man. ......and we move up.

They didn’t even add commentary. Lame.
If you click on the chevron at the lower right of the box for each pick, there's commentary. For example, here's the text on picking Bear for the Pens:
It's tempting to add a center or defenseman here for the Penguins, but Bear's high-end skill and tenacity will be highly appealing, especially since he's a late birthday who can be on the team potentially in a year or two to play alongside their aging star centers. — Pronman

So we’re probably going to end up with two 1st, three 2nd, and two 3rd rounders in June of 26?

That’s kind of exciting though seems far away.

It's a decent list. McQueen is a complete wildcard for anyone creating mock drafts right now. I'd love to get some insider info from scouts on what they think about him.

I don't think I've seen two lists the same from 2-12(ish). It's really hard coming up with the picks. Like, Frondell to Chicago - that makes total sense. But then you say "but wait...would they really pass on Hagens? Or Martone?" And think at a point, you can say that at damn near every pick until they are both taken. NYI really has me wondering about Hagens too. That could flip absolutely everything on its head if they take him 1ov.
and there is a lot of time to add.
Rakell for a 1st, EK for a 1st. Just bathe in 1sts. Soak in them.

Elite Prospects dropped a good video on Frondell and Eklund a few days ago

Eklund's playmaking actually looks substantially stronger than I thought it was going to be. Frondell definitely has some tunnel vision, but Eklund is really showing some good hockey IQ with his passes here.

Seeing Eklund in this video makes it so obvious why it's easy to love him. If he was 3 inches taller, he'd be a top-5 pick in this draft.

The way Elite Prospects talks about Eklund here makes me feel like they actually like him more than Frondell. "Eklund has the playmaking game, can score, work the boards and carry the puck while being a much better playdriver". It's just a question if NHL teams will believe in his motor, which they do but a lot of NHL teams will take Frondell over Eklund.

The impression that I'm getting from Elite Prospects and the video is that Eklund is better now and really only needs to add size to be a good NHLer, but Frondell is more raw and has more upside due to his size plus 2-way game at center.

Button's new top-15:

1. Schaefer
2. Misa
3. Frondell
4. Martone
5. McQueen
6. Martin
7. Desnoyers
8. Hagens
9. Mrtka
10. Eklund
11. O'Brien
12. Smith
13. Reschny
14. Carbonneau
15. Spence

Bear is ranked all the way #24. If O'Brien drops all the way to #11, I'll be super happy to take him even with my concerns with him.

I hope Elite Prospects does a deep dive on Bear's video, that Eklund tape looked phenomenal and I'd like to see an apples to apples comparison of Bear's best games.

They’re nowhere close IMO

Not to say Bear can’t be better player one day because who knows but Eklund completely blows him away right now in my opinion. In exactly zero scenarios am I taking Bear over Eklund.

Elite Prospects has the two virtually tied at 7th and 8th, with Bear only being ranked below due to the injury.
