I don’t follow prospects at all but I went to a giants game a year ago and Schmidt stood out a lot. See he’s been dominant to start here.

not at all, that’s truly what most us all want and expect. It’s just not talked about because you know..etiquette and respect towards the nature of hockey

The last time the Canucks selected in both the first and second rounds of the NHL entry draft was back in 2019 when they selected Vasily Podkolzin and Nils Hoglnder.

They didn't have a first and second rounder in 2020. They had no first rounder in 2021; and no second rounder in 2022. They had no second rounder in 2023; and of course in 2024 they'd previously traded away both their first and second rounder.

I know there are lots of Canuck fans who are convinced they can keep flushing draft picks for immediate help. But sooner or later, the past has a habit of catching up with you. So I wouldn't be in favor of another year in 2025 where they dumped yet another first rounder.

Feels like they need to draft a goalie soon. Especially with Demko's injury history. Last 2 picks, Aku is going into his JR year at Harvard but has 18 games under his belt in his 2 years there. Young, in his final year was beaten out by Ravensbergen for the starting role come playoffs.

Agreed. They've gone two straight drafts without doing so. I'm a big proponent of drafting a goalie every year so I definitely support getting back to it next summer. It also feels like they actually have a need to, beyond just to keep the pipeline flowing. If Demko's injury is going to alter his career for good and Silovs isn't the answer, suddenly the Canucks are pretty screwed in net going forward.

Even if Demko is going to be fine, now is still when you want to be starting to develop someone for the future.

Well they’ve been thin on picks in 2024. 2023 had plenty but didn’t take one despite having 3 fourth rounders. Have noticed teams loading up on goalies in rounds 2&3 the past couple of drafts.

Lately fewer goalies going round 1 so pushing the talent into round 2-3. Hopefully they hold onto some picks so that they can get a goalie because they need the depth and quality but with so few prospects they really can’t afford to wait 5 years for a goalie to develop. But still have to draft and develop them. Not really trading for one or signing one via free agency.

All the high end talent coming out of Western Canada. Most likely 4 of 5 #1 OA from Western Canada.
