the rangers could definitely use him. i can see him going anywhere from #6 on. i think a lot of the c's people are excited about drop from where they're projected. only frondell and misa are really top c prospects. all the rest have pretty serious question marks

FWIW I’m very high on Reschny and I think he’s one of the better C’s in this draft. I’d honestly take him over O’Brien, Frondell and Desnoyers.


At this point, I’d probably just stay away from McQueen after much consideration. A lot of his points in his limited games this year have come from bottom feeder teams and I have concerns about his ability to stay healthy.

I think Reschny goes top 10.

All but one went on to continue playing. The one that retired presumably quit hockey altogether but unclear if it was related to spondylosis.

I think we should trade up into the 9-11 range. Identify a center in that range and go get them. Brady Martin is probably a good compliment to EP40. I'd gladly move 47th overall and 65th overall (plus any other assets) to secure a long term fit to the organization's biggest hole.

Daniel Sedin had a herniated disc and a subsequent surgery back in 2001.

Alexander Edler missed a lot of time with a back injury (herniated disc) and subsequent procedure leading up to the playoffs before the run to the Cup Finals in 2011.

Those are the Canuck related ones I can think of…

More recently Gabe Vilardi looked like his career could be in danger with a back injury (rumored to be a spondy) when he was trying to establish himself with the Kings.

But, your point stands: lower back injuries can be very difficult to come back from.

Aitcheson had 38 5 on 5 points, Braeden Cootes had 39. Aitcheson is one of the easiest players in the draft to project.

I love Brady Martin but this is just too much, we need the assets and hopefully draft properly at 15,47 and 65th.

I also think that Brady gets drafted 6 or 7th anyways.

That's fair but the trade up that was offered didn't make much sense to me and frankly I think the Canucks can get a good center prospect at 15 which is sorely needed in the system.

I’d only trade back if you get to the 15th and it’s only that amorphous 2nd tier of centres. Move down 5 or spots, pick up another 2nd, and then grab someone like Gastrin in the 20s.

How often do you find NHlers from mid 2nd onwards? If you're lucky maybe one of those assets turn into a decent NHLer. That's just reality. If you feel strongly about adding a stud center you go get them and ask questions later..

Adding a core piece at an important position (Center)should be priority this summer. We need core assets to set up the foundation. It will be difficult to find a young Top 6 center via trade without sacrificing from the defense. The best choice of action is likely to sign a stop gap and draft a center who can eventually take over in the top 6.

2 things here.

Martin could definitely be gone by that range however there is others worth trading up for. I feel like there will be a good center that slips into that range that could be the long term answer.

Just imagine how hard it would be to acquire Martin type once he established himself in thee NHL. You'd gladly be throwing every prospect and draft pick for him. Would you rather offer up willander, Lek, D-petey etc for a decent 2nd line center? That's what other teams will ask for when Alvin makes phone calls.

This really isn’t the time or the draft to trade back IMO. Most of the hard core draft followers say there’s a steep drop off starting around the late teens and trading back from just before that is a bad drafting strategy. With our current lack of prospect depth, we really need a hit here and trading back into much higher bust potential range to pick up a couple extra B or C level prospects does nothing for us at this time.

Take either the highest upside pick who isn’t a head case or the safer pick in a position of need that you feel has the most room for growth and get him on a top end development program.

Now is not the time to sacrifice quality for quantity.

If they can grab two of Nilson , Gastrin, Ryker Lee, or Potter for the 15th pick I would do it. As much as I love Brady Martin a question arises on whether his style will easily translate to the NHL as much as people anticipate. He plays a very power based game hes not small but hes no Tom Wilson. In a previous post I mentioned how he reminds me of Ryan Leonard, Leonard however has better tools and hockey sense. Leonard hasn't exactly set the world on fire as of yet. Also after O'Brien/Frondell a lot of these guys project as 2-3 Cs prospects with warts anyways. Reschny who in our range has the potential to be an allstar still has a lot of risk as a prospect due to size/speed concerns (hes a good skater not a burner though) is one of my favourite prospects this year.
