2025 DRAFT Thread

How long can the Canucks really avoid drafting centers? Pettersson last center they drafted in the top 2 rounds. 8 drafts between drafting centers is dumb. Need to draft a center that will play in the NHL even if it's just in the middle 6.

As much as the focus is and should be on the 15th pick, we really need to make the most of our second and 3rd rounders as well this year and target some boom but types in the alter rounds like Owen Griffin and a guy like the Vancouver Giants Aaron Obobaifo who will be under the radar after an injury shortened season.

drafting the best center prospect available at 15 should be the priority here and Cole Reschny is a guy they should be looking at.

Swedish twins in the same draft? Unheard of, gotta be the first of their kind :sarcasm:

I wonder when they are projected to be drafted.

From where I can tell, late rounds at best. They have decent stats and size but aren’t ranked by NHL CSS. I’m hoping Elite Prospects has something on them in their draft guide.

could very well be. Point was like 5'10 and lacked foot speed at the time draft, and he still does today. but who knows. it also could be another Hunter Shinkaruk. Hopefully our scouts did their homework.
Brayden Point lacks foot speed? Really? Have you ever watched him play? He’s an awesome skater.

Not a top end speed guy but explosive when moving. Need's to work on his first two steps. That comes with gaining leg strength for a lot of juniors.

His draft year he had skating issues which is why he kinda dropped. Glad he fixed it.
Brayden point was always a great skater, he dropped because he was 5'9 160. I think you can probably point (haha) to him as the player who opened the door for players of a similar size getting drafted earlier.

Kindel's is a solid skater and he works hard at it. mechanically sound, he'll get faster as he gets stronger. I don't think he's as good as Point was in his draft year...but i also don't believe it's a weakness at all.

He's got good physical tools, high level hockey IQ....knows when to attack, how to attack, is an outstanding distributor with great hands and good shot. If he was 2 inches taller, he's probably a top 10 pick.

He's the type of player coaches will trust in any situation.

So Cootes and if he's gone then Kindel.

He (Point) was ranked 38th in ISS Hockey’s final rankings, and TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button had the skilled forward ranked 17th in his June rankings. - Another win for TSN director of Scouting Craig Button.

Point grew up in Calgary but admits that he didn’t grow up a Flames fan. Instead he says he grew up a Vancouver Canucks fan because of his favorite player Markus Naslund. Just like all players he’s not showing favorites on which team he hopes he gets drafted by, but says if it was the Canucks that would be special.

“I actually talked to them (the Canucks) at the combine. That was a cool experience for me, being a big fan of them growing up and then talking to them. It would be awesome if I was drafted by Vancouver, but I think any team would be pretty cool.”

WTF JIM!!!! NIKITA TRYAMKIN OVER BRAYDEN POINT IN 3RD ROUND!!!!!

Seems to me that some of kids, particularly some of the smallish center prospects, linked to the Canucks at pick #15 might still be on the board later in the first round.

This might be the year to trade back--and acquire an extra pick in the second round.

Recap of Rick Dhaliwal's interview. I'll break this up to the relevant threads.

Canucks’ Draft Plans
  • Their 1st round pick is in play if they can acquire a top-6 forward
  • Can see 6 centres taken in the first 11 picks in the upcoming draft
  • Dream scenario is that Roger McQueen falls to 15th; Canucks have checked the medicals on him
  • Braeden Cootes has caught the attention of Canucks’ scouts

Canucks Army is seriously pumping the tires on Kashon Aitcheson at pick #15 for the Canucks.

Trouble is, he's another left-shot d-man playing for the Barrie Colts. He's being compared to a 'Kevin Bieksa' throwback d-men, and might be the best guy available in that draft slot.

Of course that's the trouble with the entry draft. The best strategy is always to take the best player available, regardless of position. Because if the kid really develops, then at the very least you've got a valuable trade asset.

That's why if there's another team out there with multiple picks that really likes Aitcheson, maybe the Canucks can trade back and acquire more picks in rounds one or two.

I see him going to the Rangers

the rangers could definitely use him. i can see him going anywhere from #6 on. i think a lot of the c's people are excited about drop from where they're projected. only frondell and misa are really top c prospects. all the rest have pretty serious question marks
