2025 DRAFT Thread

Does he plan on growing a couple inches and filling out his frame by 30 lbs? Highly unlikely. That's quite the strange comparison.

I don't know where you got those reports from. I do question how a guy who's not physical against kids is all of a sudden going to be physical against men in the NHL. Other than Cootes and Backlund comparable I think the rest are pretty far off for those players. Konecny for Bear
I am pretty sure those are AI generated.

Ya I meant get all 3. At once. A rebuild/rebrand centered around gritty two way centers slotted 1 thru 3.

Get a Brad Richardson vet for #4 and let these 3 beauties lead the charge. Get them some veteran wingers I dunno.

Joel Eriksson Ek (frondell)
Michael Peca (martin)
Phil Danault (cootes)

Just smother and defend the opposition to death.
Watching some Martin highlights earlier this year, Peca popped up into my brain immediately. Not many guys that size can hit that hard, without even taking a huge run to do so.
I think your plan is totally unrealistic, but I appreciate your player comparables anyway.

If I was to compare Martin to a more recent prospect I would say he strikes me as someone akin to Ryan Leonard. A modern powerforward who can do it all, high motor, physical, scoring touch while bringing two way play. North south player who isn't quite as skilled as Leonard but will be a untouchable piece if he hits his ceiling.

Again, what is this in reference to? Are you saying that the summaries that @lawrence posted without links or attribution are from that guy?

WHL: Cole Reschny - Neutral Zone - Men's

I took reports from this website and used AI to format them into bullet points for my own preference. I liked the layout so much that I decided to share it. I focused on these four players specifically because I believe they’re realistic options for us at pick 15, and they’re also the prospects I personally favor.

Cole Reschny (C): Played exceptionally well for Canada at the Western Canadians tournament. As a centerman, he brings strong two-way play and reliability.

Carter Bear: Arguably the best offensive player of the group. He has the fewest flaws in his game, combining skill, vision, and consistency.

Carbonneau: Stands out for his size, speed, and soft hands. His scoring touch is something I personally value highly, and he’s a proven sharpshooter.

I see Sam Consentino on Sportsnet has the Canucks picking Cootes with the 15th pick; And Craig Button over at TSN as Vancouver selecting Reschny.

I don't think the Canucks have drafted anyone from the Dub in the first round since Jake Virtanen in 2014. So there's nowhere to go but 'up' after that.

Reschny, Cootes, Bear, and Carbonneau are certainly realistic options for us. Martin much less likely. Thinking he goes to Boston, and if not Buff or Pitts would take him.

I really wanted Martin. It's unfortunate that he has had such an amazing end to the year. I still have hope that the chrome dome clan has enough nuts to trade up for him but unlikely. One silver lining of Martin solidifying himself as a top 10 pick is someone who was thought to be unavailable at 15 a month ago will be now.

Eklund? McQueen? Mrtka?

I understand that there's a good chance we trade the pick, but is don't want to do that until we know who's going to be available at 15.

Someone might drop. My guess would be McQueen because of the injury. Teams looking at Cayden Lindstrom and he just played his first game the other night.

I like McQueen. However, I wouldn't trust our medical staff with a hangnail, let alone a back injury.

At lest McQueen finished the season playing the game. I doubt he drops to 15. He’s been a highly praised prospect since the start of the season and never really dropped. He’s also a Canucks fan.

I think both McQueen and Eklund will fall, just not all the way to 15. No way 6’6 RD Mrtka falls

Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Martin off the board well before the Canucks’ pick. Leonard went ninth in a stronger draft. Even if you prefer Leonard’s tools, Martin plays centre and had better DY production.
