2025 DRAFT Thread

I see a lot of similarities between this draft and 2017.
Glass, Mittelstadt, Andersson, Rasmussen all top 10 that didn't turn out.

Thomas was a PPG July birthday. There's no Czech that played well in a men's league. No July Winger like Robertson or Aug like Vilardi. Norris was a May baby. There was so many younger babies in that draft. Petey scored at twice the rate of Frondell.

Schaefer match that Celebrini, Bedard very late birthday like Mackinnon.

If Reschny was two inches taller he would be firmly in the top 8. I think size concerns are overblown with him - hockeydb currently has him at 5'11. Well built too at 183 lbs. He carried Victoria on his back all year and exploded in the playoffs straight into a great performance in the u18s. He's who I'm hoping for at 15 assuming he's available and Martin is already taken. Cootes or Kindel if Reschny and Martin are taken.

If they use the pick to select a player I’d actually be very worried that they think Hughes is leaving

i actually think the opposite. if they make the pick it probably means they're fairly secure in hughes sticking around

i think trading it is a bigger sign they're worried they're running out of time to change his mind

Ive never followed offer sheets much till St Louis B)tchslapped edmonton with them

i mean 15th overall pick
does not having our third effect it if we have a third????????

$6,871,374 for a 1st and 3rd for vilardi who did play 71 games

that probably appeases Hughes

We don't have our own third.

Reschny, in Juniors, just thinks the game on a so much higher level than other Juniors. Wouldn't mind taking him but my question is about up side. He looks like the finished product and you wonder how much growth there will be. Unlike someone like Martin or Smith, who are far from being what they ultimately will be, Reschny might already be what he is going to be.

What makes him a finished product?

i remember when everyone said this about saad during his draft year lol

Call it unbridled or hopeless optimism, but I just have a feeling that somebody is going to fall in the first round of this upcoming draft,

That's what happened when the Canucks snagged Lekkerimaki with the 15th selection in 2022. Scouts were concerned about his size and skating. But so far, so good.

It might be longshot but if either of Martin or McQueen was still on the board, I'd feel a lot better about keeping the pick.

Correct me if I’m mistaken, but after Scheaffer, none of Smith, Mrtka, Hensler, or Aitcheson profile as ‘offensive / PP’ type d-man. If so, maybe someone takes Sascha early, like the oilers did with Broberg.
Good call although I think Smith really stands out from the others.

That being said Sascha's stock seems to be rising and I'd have him second after Smith among Dman not going #1 overall for 2025.

But the Canucks really have to draft a center at 15.

Hot take/Prediction: Due to the strength of this draft don't be surprised to see a lot of perceived reaches in this draft.

Im ok with this pick. Looks good to me.

indeed, it completely ignores that if the Canucks finished with 89 points they would have lost the tiebreaker to both Utah and Columbus, so if they would have been in Columbus' spot and Columbus would be in Utah's spot and got the 4th pick.

It's insane that a blatantly wrong tweet has nearly 400 likes and has been reposted here countless times.

Yeah! Van should have been in the 10th spot after they sold at the TDL. lol

15. Vancouver Canucks: Braeden Cootes, C, Seattle Thunderbirds

This is the range where the conversation really heats up around projectable, well-liked wingers like Carbonneau, Lakovic and Bear. I prefer all three of those kids to Cootes and think they could and should be considered by the Canucks here, but the Canucks have almost nothing coming down the middle and most scouts believe Cootes is every bit in the same conversation as those wingers.

Scott Wheeler's most recent mock draft

But you see Vancouver didn't have enough "juice" last season, except when they did, to effect their draft position on the fat part of the bell curve. Mason Appleton, Will Borgen, *hyena laugh* let's gooooooooooo.
