2025 DRAFT Thread

For Canucks:

1. Misa
2. Schaeffer
3. Desnoyers
4. Frondell
5. Martone
6. Hagens
7. McQueen (assuming healthy)
8. O’Brien
9. Martin
10. Eklund
11. Mrtka
12. Aitcheson
13. Reschny
14. Cootes
15. Bear

If any of Smith, Hensler, Lakovic, Nesbitt, and maybe even Spence get taken before us so much the better.

i know next to nothing about the chl kids but hagens is one of the worst top ncaa prospects in a decade. there's only 5 months between him and eiserman, eiserman had a better freshman year, looks like the better prospect and was a mid first pick in 2024

if hagens is a top 5 pick in this draft it's one of the worst of the last decade imo
This seems pretty hyberbolic about Hagens.

I could see him reasonably dropping out of the top-five, but the "worst" NCAA prospect doesn't seem accurate. He outproduced Eiserman (and Eiserman was older) when they were both with the USNTDP, and a point-per-game as a freshman (particularly as a smaller player going against 22-23 year olds) in the NCAA is still quite strong.

Watching him at the WJCs, I thought he drove play quite well. Had some decent puck protection and wasn't afraid to attack the interior. I suspect his personal and on-ice shooting percentages are a bit low/unlucky at BC this year, and he'll see some uptick in production next season.

2024 had celebrini, 2023 had fantilli, 2022 had logan cooley and cutter gauthier, 2021 had beniers, power, luke hughes and johnson, 2019 had jack hughes, 2018 had tkachuk and quinn hughes

you have to go back to 2020 (jake sanderson) or 2017 (casey mittelstadt) to find a comparatively weak ncaa top prospect

i'm not calling hagens a bust or anything. i think he'll be a reasonably good player. i just don't think he's a star

Correct me if I’m mistaken, but after Scheaffer, none of Smith, Mrtka, Hensler, or Aitcheson profile as ‘offensive / PP’ type d-man. If so, maybe someone takes Sascha early, like the oilers did with Broberg.

To be clear about this one, it's a mock draft done by The Athletic staff with the beat writers picking for the teams they cover. Pronman just organizes it and gives his thoughts at the end.
hes one of the guys I want at 15th. Highly skilled, good hands, very good wrist shot, decent speed, and size at 6'1 190 lbs for a 17 year old. I know this pick sounds familiar to someone like Lekkermimaki but if hes available at 15, and Brady Martin is gone, I'm ok with this pick.

Charbonneau looks like an interesting prospect. Has a 'shoot-first' mentality and has really lit up the QMJHL as a draft-eligible 18-year old.

Not sure where the 'Q' ranks this year in term of prospect development. Strikes me as the kind of guy who some team will take a flyer on higher than #15.....or also a chance he drops back into the back-half of the first round.

But that's just the crap-shoot of the 2025 entry draft.

1 Schaefar
2 Misa
3 Martone
4 Hagens
Tier 1

5 Frondel
6 Eklund
7 Caleb Desnoyers
8 Roger McQueen
Tier 2

9 Radim Mrtka
10 Jackson Smith
11 Jake OBrien
12 Brady Martin
13 Carter Bear
14 Justin Carbonnau.
15 Cole Reschny, Ben Kindel.

I have no interest in drafting dmans, unless its Radm Mrtka.

Isn't that 3/4 of the Canucks already. The last good play maker the Canucks have had JT Miller and Henrik Sedin. Next up is Conor Garland.

I honestly don't know if there are true tiers after Schaefer in the top 15 or so. Even with him there's some uncertainty. Someone like Brady Martin could easily be a better NHL player than Michael Misa. There are some more certain players and some more high variance players in terms of their projection, but the overall potential is comparable for all these players.

This draft doesn’t have that Celebrini/Bedard/Matthews level of talent which lazily gives it a weak rank. But the depth, especially at C, is as good as any. I’d say the first round as a whole is stronger than 2022, 2021, and 2020. Hell aside from Celebrini, Buium, Demidov, Parekh, Catton, and Dickinson, I’d take pretty much every single projected top 20-25 in this years draft over last years top 20. I mean some truly god awful f***ing draft choices last year.

I just hope people in this thread don't get too disappointed when and I mean WHEN the Canucks trade the 1st round pick.

i don't agree at all. i don't really follow the chl but ncaa/usndtp guys like will horcoff, boumedienne, ryker lee, william moore and vansaghi could all go in the first round and there isn't a single name in that group i'd rate higher than someone like teddy stiga (55th overall last year), kamil bednarik (61st overall last year) or brodie ziemer (71st overall last year)

this is just flat out an awful draft year
