Going to get another look at Gastrin in tonight's game but he's been looking like an early 2nd rounder to me.Sascha Boumdienne with a monster start to the U-18’s. 7 points in 2 games.
Think it will come down to Bear/Cootes/Gastrin/Martin/Kindel or Boumdienne/Aitcheson

I've been really high on Schmidt since his rookie season before he broke out this year but the Canucks still need to take the BPA at 15 and there is going to be a center there that is not only better but fills a need in our system.I see some of Cameron Schmidt's dazzling moves are making the highlight reels at the U-18 tourney in Texas.
Most of the rankings I've seen have him in the back half of the first round. But he's a Vancouver Giant, so obviously the Canuck scouts would have seen a lot of him, and 78 points in 61 games is hard to ignore.
He's listed at 5'7" and 161 on Hockey DB. Normally a guy you'd pass on. But would the Canucks roll the dice on him at pick #15?
Instructions unclear, drafting a undersized bottom six winger.Just draft a C. There should be plenty to choose from.

Can't doubt Schmidt's skills but if we're going to keep Hoglander, Garland, and Hughes it wouldn't be ideal to add another 5'7 player.Watching those YouTube highlights for Cameron Schmidt, I'm getting 'Cole Caufield' vibes
Probably 'a reach' to pick him at #15 overall--but sometimes you have to swing for the fences. Talent usually wins out in the end.
Caufield wasn't a reach at 15 but Schmidt isn't scoring 70 goals in his draft year like Caufield did.Watching those YouTube highlights for Cameron Schmidt, I'm getting 'Cole Caufield' vibes

That's the type of player any team can use in the playoffs.Figured out who the winger version of Brady Martin is. Jake Neighbours.
It’s a draft thread though, not a 1st round pick thread.Close the thread.
The 1st is going to be traded.
It seems like his weaknesses is can be taught or coached so I am down with Martin with the 15th pick.Figured out who the winger version of Brady Martin is. Jake Neighbours.
I wonder if the Canucks might have their eyes on Braeden Cootes since Mynio and him were teammates in Seattle.
Assuming we keep our pick which is probably likely, I’m pretty confident we’re selecting one of Kindel, Martin, Reschny, or Cootes (unless someone like McQueen or Bear fall to us).
Reschny putting up the points he’s putting in the playoffs leans me towards him. Martin a close 2nd.
Really interested in Ryker Lee for our 2nd pick, kid has amazing hands and shot. His skating needs a lot of work but possibly could be due to a growth spurt. Very smart, scorer with a lot of playing making skills if he could improve skating I see a top line talent. Reminds me of Jason Robertson without the size.
