Fairly confident we will get Willander signed, but if Radim Mrtka drops to us despite need would you take him? I could see him being a pick in the top 10 tbh

no. he's a poor skater and he really struggled in the czech league. he'll go way higher than he should

IMO his skating isn't that bad just not a strength, plus hes so young for this draft.
He played 10 games as a 17 year old in a mens league. Then came over and played extremely well in a new league against his own competition.
He will go higher than he should because the draft just isn't very good.

Though, it's hard to see Victor Eklund slipping between the cracks like Lekkerimaki did. Name recognition, his performance at the U20s and the monster numbers he put up for Djugardens are impossible to ignore. The fact he's doing this as an undersized player is an additional green flag IMO....three years out, he'll probably be 20lbs heavier, just as relentless, faster and a LOT stronger. So i hope you're right!

This year isn't a deep or really great draft.
I keep on about Misa, I have for two years now, but he might be one of the few that can transition directly to the NHL. I am not sure he is a lock into an instant starting top six spot but he has nothing but upside and does seem to be able to get points now for two years. He could be another Wright or even Lafreniere but the team needs centers and he has the highest profile at this time.I do like to look at guys that come out of the woodwork too though.
The team just paid 14.5 million to Pettersson and then ran him into the ground publicly even to the point of saying they, paraphrasing, they trade the wrong guy.
I do believe that with the right coach, a very few games in Abby, this kid could get the same points as EP40 if given the same PP time.
Manny in Abby seem to be a very good coach, if he ended up on the big club he might just the guy needed during a transition year(s) playing younger players. Even if he just taught them to win FOs'. If the team had a plan he won't be needing to find excuses or blaming players for losses all the time. I think media and fans would be more tolerant.

I think we should focus this thread specifically on players that could be available in the second round onward because everybody knows that first rounder is getting traded even more so after that press conference by Jim Rutherford.

This draft is a draft where in draft plus 4 or 5 you hope to have a player score that scores 50 points with a mid round pick vs a draft where in draft plus 3 you are getting a 50 point player with a mid round pick.

Unless they trade down to the top 4 or 5. There could be late bloomers out there. That is where you look at points going up the last half of the season.
Some of these kids get points because they grew into a man's body early and some as they grow into that body.
It certainly doesn't hurt if their coach starts giving them more ice time or plays a less restrictive shut down system.
Misa has been putting up better than a point per game since he was 16 yrs old.
Second round sleeper(s), Epperson, Behm?
I've got no idea this year. Later birthdays, kids that played against men (europeans), younger 19 years old that went boom.
u18s have started today. The next Klimovich is in there somewhere. Lol.

There are a ton of Russian kids available, most are around 19 or 20 that were just passed on due to world events and fear of them not coming soon enough.
They are harder to track but there are a few notables playing a few games in the KHL.
But this team needs a modern day non Don Cherry type coach, Euros can win games but do need maybe a more emotional player to play with.
For most Euro's the World Cup, Olympics and playing for their nation is emotionally bigger than the Stanley Cup, the big attraction is the money. And now Ovy will have a huge impact over there.

IF that is a second rounder in this draft, I would suggest doing whatever to try up or trading picks for next season.

first 44 games - 31 points
last 30 games including playoffs 39 points
he's going to go higher than 70 IMO.
great skillset IMO. smart, good skater and plays fast. kinda small but not a shrinking violet.
I did watch Oshawa play a couple games in round two. He was noticeable. It felt more like junior noticeable and not NHL noticeable to me. I've only ever put one player on a DND list. That was Allen McShane. I'd say 85 or later is an acceptable pick for him.
