NHL Entry Draft: 2025 Draft Pick Watch

FFS, take your medicine and give #12 to Pittsburgh. What? We're going to take a guy with a bad back instead of having our first round pick next year? I know Drury is desperate and clinging on to his job for dear life, but god damn.

For the 100th time. Yes. Get over it already lol.

We are getting a great prospect in the draft.

Where have I heard this before? And BTW, how do you know we're even keeping the pick?
Because it's pretty obvious Drury is not giving it up by now.

The condition was top 13 he would get option to keep it. And its top 13, so he keeping it.

Good player will be available. But i guess you have already written off whichever player we draft as already a bust.

i don’t think i’ve seen anyone even bring up the opportunity cost of giving up this pick

Not only are you risking getting a noticeably worse pick, you’re also adding a whole other year of development time for that pick. The guy you take this year will almost certainly be ready sooner than the guy you take a year from now. Even if we get a slightly better pick and player next year, the extra year of waiting lowers the value of that immensely

"Good player will be available." Insightful statement, dude. And it won't mean shit until there's a radical change on how we develop guys.

Right, because that's exactly what I said
Dude. The player hasn't even been selected yet and you are saying they will suck... Hahahaha.
I mean if the player at 12th this year is going to suck what is the choice at 20+ next year going to do differently? Suck, but a year later?

Guys I would expect to be surely gone by the time 12 comes around---Schaefer, Misa, Martone, Hagens, Desnoyers, Martin, Frondell.

Other kind of likely's--McQueen and O'Brien.

Defense that might be available--Mrtka, Aitcheson and Smith.

Forwards that might be available--Eklund, Bear, Cootes, Lakovic, Carbonneau.

If all of Martin, McQueen and O'Brien are already gone I'd probably go with a defenseman. I'd rather pick Mrtka, Smith and Aitcheson over any of Eklund, Bear, Cootes, Lakovic and Carbonneau. We need defensemen too----all these guys have size and skill. Mrtka is huge, Smith is probably the best all around but you have to love Aitcheson's take no prisoners kind of game.

I'm saying this team has a deep-rooted issue that needs to be fixed

We are probably not getting a great prospect. You can probably count the great prospects in this draft on one hand

I’m taking Eklund over your 3D group. Agree with about everything else though. O’Brien, Eklund & McQueen I take over your 3D; probably in that order.

Honestly I kind of like Reid better than anyone in your 3D group but the Rangers probably won’t take a player like that. Smith kind of in the same boat. If we are only taking bigger dmen I just think Mrtka is better than Aitcheson. I think Aitcheson is going to get over drafted because he does a lot of flashy stuff; I don’t know how it translates though. I’d be worried on that

Aitcheson plays all out. He might be as mean and nasty as anyone in the draft. He looks to make the big hit......he'll fight anyone anytime. He was also like tied for being the leading scorer on his team as a 17/18 year old defender and if I'm remembering correctly his Barrie team had a lot of older already drafted guys including a couple first round forwards. His physical game is something no one will have to worry about or teach him. If anything you might have to get him to tone it down a bit like we have with Rempe but I'd rather that than someone that doesn't really have that quality at all. He's competitive to the hilt. I like guys like that.

Maybe, maybe not. Drury would be gone and maybe the new President/GM (let's face it, it'll be Shanahan) will be given carte blanche.
Yeah, I don't think Drury is going anywhere in the next year. Unless he gives Pitt this years pick and tanks us out of the playoffs... which he isn't going to do, so...
Do you think Gabe was a bad pick?

What's the guarantee that the player pick in 2026 will be unequivocally better? Because some people throwing darts at a board said this draft is weak and "next year's draft is actually really strong"? That is said, almost quite literally, every single year. And yet some very strong players emerge from every draft.

With the logic of "we develop players like shit so we should give up this year's pick," do you really see there being such a massive shift between this draft and the next with how NYR develop players? It's the most defeatist way of looking at everything.
