NHL Entry Draft: 2025 Draft Pick Watch

At this point I don’t think either Desnoyers or Martin are a reach at 6. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Desnoyers go 3 to Chicago, followed by Hagens and Martin as the top 5.

Well really there's never complete uniformity in how teams will look at any given draft. The Rangers certainly have been a team that quite often has had its share of going off script......and things change. I think Hagens has dropped a little in some estimations. What to make of McQueen? Apparently he's been talking about his injury and the mistakes in diagnosing exactly what it was and the pains he's taken to get better. It sounds like he thinks he's good to go now.

For me a lot of how the Rangers draft these last years is about getting not just good players but those who can fit with the kind of identity the team seems intent on building. I think if Martin were there he would fit very well into that kind of identity we're trying to build. I don't think he will be around at 12 though. Desnoyers kind of gives me a Patrice Bergeron kind of vibe but we're still talking about an 18 year old and a lot of things would still have to go right for him to get to that kind of place.

Another FC 5-Rounder, one I'd be overall quite happy with. A bit boom or bust, but i'll take it:

12- C Brady Martin (EP 12)- "A one-of-a-kind manipulative playmaker who overwhelms opponents with monster forechecking ability and bone-crushing hits. Top-six NHL outcome hinges on skating development."

43- RW Ryker Lee (EP 34)- "A tremendously skilled winger who slices open defences with game-breaking handling and punishes them with his playmaking and heavy one-timer. Everything hinges on skating."

70- RD Carter Amico (EP 62)- "A toolsy right-shot defenceman who started the year as a potential first-round pick with his shutdown game, but reads under pressure and injury history are concerns."

104- RD Max Psenicka (EP 31)- "Perhaps the draft’s biggest second-half riser, this high-pace breakout wizard adapted to the WHL instantly, and still has to more to give offensively."

118- LD Malte Vass (EP 64)- "A defensive defenceman who kills plays through his physicality and motor; also flashes ability in transition, but needs to refine his puck-moving."

143- G Petteri Rimpinen (EP 100) - "A World Juniors star who was passed over last year; posted some of the strongest results among all Liiga starters this season"

Martin to 4 at Utah would be a little crazy

I understand if they really like the player - and trading back is probably too risky given that any team could take him - but that's a bit of a reach. You'd be passing on at least 3 of these 4 players: Martone, Frondell, Hagens, Desnoyers.

everything i’m seeing def screams that Martin is a riser. This type of shit happens every year around this time, when the interviewing process starts guys start to rise and drop. And Martin is like the stereotype of a late riser, especially in a draft this barren. Maybe these other guys have a bit better of a ceiling, but I think the gap is small enough to where a team liking Martin in interviews gives him an edge

Martin at 4 is mental.
A month ago, he was ranked 11-15 with an outside chance to go 6-10. I love his game and he's going to be a fan favorite wherever he goes. Going at 4 is crazy though, especially since two of Martone, Hagens, and Frondell will be on the board.

I was holding out hope that he might fall, but that's not happening anymore. Someone else is gonna fall. While this draft isn't as good/deep as others, the one thing it does have going for it is 12 top 10 picks. Just hope that Mrtka goes ahead of us (not as much of a position of need, but still worth a top 10 pick) and take the leftover guy and don't get cute.

McQueen is the big swing. Top 5 talent with full bust potential. He's now my target.

I like Smith a little more than Aitcheson, and Aitch is more of a riser which I'm okay with him going before us if all of the top C's are off the board. Smith is my second choice to McQ. Interchangeably 11/12 on my board.

If a C like Desnoyers drops unexpectedly, cool. If we take Aitch, that's cool too.

Good to know that Drury hasn't learned anything from the past year or so, or however far back you want to go in terms of evaluating draft prospects.

What's the point of that crap? No wonder they never win anything; suck at development.
Visual recognition speed/ mental acuity. And relax, I’m sure it wasn’t the sum total of the potential draftees’ interactions with our staff. Hahahaha.
