NHL Entry Draft: 2025 Draft Pick Watch

For me it’s kind of crazy Wang is in a projected 2nd rounder. From what I’ve read is he can skate and is big but that’s it. 2 pts in 32 ohl games is crazy low imo. Also I’d be wary of how good a 6’6 dman is at defense in the juniors, but what do I know I’m surprised Emery went in the first putting up 16 pts in usntdp juniors. I know points aren’t anythjbg but usually most defensive d men put up points in juniors.
He's newer to playing. So the hype on him is there's a lot to like in such a shorter showing, and if he continues to improve at this rapid rate, the ceiling can be very worth it for them. It can also be a big swing and a miss.

I think all of their floors are considerably lower.

I'd say it looks more like

Kassian
The bad version of PDL
Doesn't play a NHL game
Martin Marincin.

Aitchenson has legit bust potential, he's just hell fire on ice so if he hits even a little bit (see: can legit play top 4 minutes) he's a rare asset.

I don't think Martin makes it to us.
I agree all their floors are much lower like bust or fewer than 200 NHL games. I meant more as in if they make it and have longish NHL careers that is where I see their floors.

I don’t see Kassian. Martin is a better player all around. More middle 6. Not as much of a fighter.

Bad PLD is higher floor than Kirby Dach.

I mentioned anyone can bust. Aitcheson has the highest bust potential outside of injury.

Marincin I see the comparison. But for where he was drafted(mid 2nd) he pretty much gave what was expected if not more (200+gms), and was considerably bigger.

I agree Martin will def be gone.

If we somehow manage to grab a second 1st round pick, i fully expect Drury to take Jack Murtagh. I hope he’s not dumb and picks him at 12 though.

I think we should draft Lafreniere so he can show Lafreniere what effort looks like.

On the sheet, the dfo draft analyst Steven Ellis doesn’t think Martin goes past Boston, has aitcheson as the #2 dman on the board. Marek mentioned O’Brien as a faller, still doubt he’s available gets to 12 but would love that pick.

Martin
McQueen
Aitcheson
Smith

These 4 seem like our most obvious picks at 12. And just for some context all of their floors and ceilings are all over the place. McQueen clearly has the highest potential and probably lowest floor. Anyone can bust it’s the nature of prospects. These are comparable floors for these guys.

Max Domi
Kirby Dach
Matt Dumba
Brady Skjei

Only 1 or maybe 2 of these guys are probably available at 12.
Those are my four targets.

It would be a tough choice if for any reason we're lucky enough to pick between Martin and McQ. Martin has a pretty high floor while McQueen has none at all to go along with ALL of the ceiling.

Smith needs to fill out a little. Slightly skinny.

Aitch needs to settle down a little. He's "adventurous."

I'm down with any of those 4. I'm also down with trading 12 for Byram, but that doesn't seem likely unless Mrtka drops and they love him.

11-15 is usually no mans land. Either take the guy that dropped or flex your scouting staff. If you pick a projected 20 at 12, then you MUST be right. Krav and Lias weren't.

I'm fine with going for a #10 that dropped. I'm not fine with getting cutesy.
i have a good feeling about this pick

this is the kind draft where the 12th guy goes off

as someone who has minimum knowledge, my gut likes these guys:

Martin, Mcqueen, and Lakovic

Honestly my guess is Aitcheson. and i could def see him being a good pick. but he fits our mold and the FO def like projectile guys. and aitcheson is that

I read somewhere that after interviewing Martin the Flyers staff took him out to dinner. I always thought that Desnoyers might be a target for them seeing as his brother Eliot is a Flyers prospect. Martin to Philly would make some sense though. They're a team that will reach for a player if they like him a lot.

I have a good feeling about the top 10 dropping a guy to us. PIT is in our way, and our worst case scenario is no one we want falling and PIT takes the last guy we'd want.

We can trade them for next year's and I bet they'd trade a little something to us if that were the case.

LOL I feel like only the Rangers care about family ties.

Yeah....but Desnoyers at 6 isn't really a reach. Most of the Rangers sillier shit were reaches.

As for Martin he seems likely a riser but still maybe a bit of a reach at 6. A month or so ago he would have been considered mid first round and definitely not a top 10. He's being compared to Sam Bennett and compares himself also to Tom Wilson. The physical hitting game is one thing but he isn't really a fighter so he's not likely going to be able to carry the intimidation factor that Wilson does and even Bennett is pretty good at handling himself. I see a bit of JT actually in Martin. His physical game is more like Cal Clutterbuck only he's a lot better player than Cal ever was.

I think at this point it's pretty unlikely that Martin gets to 12. Someone else will drop and maybe it's Desnoyers but I don't see him dropping out of the top 10 either. Unless you're picking first overall you should never have your sights on just one guy anyway.

Radim Mrtka measured close to 6'6.
Adam Benek didn't break 5'8. He's so skilled but this will hurt him. We've seen Caufield, Stankoven, Atkinson, DeBrincat and Zucc succeed. Hopefully he'll get a shot.

At this point I don’t think either Desnoyers or Martin are a reach at 6. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Desnoyers go 3 to Chicago, followed by Hagens and Martin as the top 5.
