NHL Entry Draft: 2025 Draft Pick Watch

I don't like it. Miller is worth a pick around 12 by himself. Adding our own pick on top of it? I hate it.

I'd rather trade that package for an established top pairing D or top line forward under 27 than an unknown pick.

Miller for 4th overall?

12th to Wild for Rossi??

Would this work??

I'd do that but Miller wouldn't get the 4th overall on his own.

If we're targeting a Miller for top pick scenario, I'm looking at Buffalo or Anaheim. Miller for the 9th or 10th overall could make sense depending on who's on the board.

Also, in reading the main board, 12th overall may be an overpay for Rossi. The Rangers may end up actually also getting a 2nd or 3rd round pick back in addition if the basis of a deal is Rossi for #12.

I don't know why Miller is being discussed here. He is the only bona fide "better than 3rd pair LD" in the entire organization.

As far as McQueen goes; if he has a great combine and goes top 10, then another top 10 guy falls into our laps. Awesome. If he happens to fall to us, it would be the easiest pick ever.

If the top 10 goes how we specifically don't want it to, and PIT picks the last guy we could possibly want, then sure, trade the pick.

I think we'll have a top 10 guy to pick at 12. I really do.

The last thing I was this sure about was Chaz Lucius in 2021, and he retired young due to EDS. And I coincidentally have a pronounced case of EDS. Go figure.

With my luck, we get McQueen somehow and he's a Futurama head in a jar in 4 years. I dunno.

same agent as Goodrow....rumor he is leaving in 2 yrs ufa

Not a great reason to move him. He's still the only top 4 LD in the organization. His agent can't be *that* petty.

why does K’Andre Miller owe the Rangers? if Miller wants to not be here, then the faster the Rangers trade him, the better. That’s the Rangers issue, not much deprth. Imagine if they drafted some dman, but nope they need over 20 bottom forwards prospects, especially in Hartford, not much young dman 😂.

Why use the word "owe?" It's pure conjecture that he doesn't want to be here. It's conjecture that his agent will insert one client's grudge into another client's contract negotiation.

Key still has two seasons of team control. We don't have to make the day after tomorrow's problem today's problem.

Back to the draft, I really like Smith and Aitcheson and either would help to address the day after tomorrow's problem.

I hope for McQueen, Brady Martin, Caleb Desnoyers at 12 or use of 12 for Rossi.

Brady Martin sounds alot like Othmann
Martin tops as a middle 6C in my opinion. He's got a quicker burst than Othmann and can also be a puck hound, more physical than you expect from his size type of player, and more balanced on his skates with his lower body. I wouldn't call him a great skater but he moves his feet enough to make it happen quicker.

I think Martin is a little bit more of that all 3 zone hound player, always moving (not just on the forecheck or trying to jump on loose pucks and sometimes that can take him out of position), and able to create a more transitions and opportunities for teammates, more so than Othhmann, who relied more on his forechecking and shot. I'm not comparing NHL time from Othmann here because it's not fair.

His compete level is on next level when comparing them.

Didn't he play in the playoffs? I figured that would always be the case for the combine testing.

I think if he had pulled out/not been cleared for all activities it would have been a pretty big red flag. Now if he does really poorly or just goes through the motions that will hurt him (because then those questions arise again) but if hes going to do everything, I'm going to go ahead and assume that he's going to try his hardest to crush things because it's really his one chance to make a really positive impression on people as he hasn't played a ton over the last calendar year. If he wasn't 100%, he wouldn't be participating as the expectation with combine testing is that you're maxing out on all the different stations and thats a really easy way to really f*** yourself up if you're already hurt. Returning to play isn't a bad thing, but guys return before they're supposed to all the time and there is some level of self preservation that a player can apply on the ice that a scout may just chalk up to rust. That veil gets lifted away here.

I don't expect him to last to 12 and I'm okay with that honestly. I get the intrigue, but I also worry about all the reps he's missed and all indications are he didn't look very good when he did return - Guys who were behind him development wise have definitely jumped him because they've been able to play and get better.

Schaefer says he is cleared for all Combine fitness testing except for bench press and pull-ups.

McQueen on his injury: "We think at U-18 Hlinka in warm-ups 2 yrs ago, I hurt it there. We didn't overly know what it was, so I just took 3 wks off and then trained that summer like normal. The following year, my 17 yr old year, I played the first 30ish games and was pretty good. From Game 30 to 50, it kinda started to get a little bit worse every game. So then I took from Game 53 off and went to get an MRI. We actually got misdiagnosed a bit there. They said it was a bulging disc, which wasn't the case. So we kinda rehabbed it like that from Feb to March and then came back for our playoffs against Moosejaw. Lost to them and then went to U-18 Worlds. And played 4 games there and kinda get hit weird. Same kinda thing. Came out again and rehabbed it like a bulging disc. And still worked out pretty normally with that. And then started the season this year and played 8 games. And then just from Games 5, 6, 7, and 8, it kinda started to tick weird again. Then went to a spine surgeon, Dr. Jay Toor, in Winnipeg, who was awesome. He's the reason I'm doing great now. He found the fracture. So got that figured out. Took 6 weeks off. It was kinda halfway healed. Took another 6 weeks off. 75%. Then took another 6. And that got us to 95%. And then basically said I was good to play."

McQueen says he's at a 10 now on a scale of 1-10 and is pain free. Says no symptoms for a while. Says he hasn't felt better in the last 3 yrs.

Asked about coming out after 3 games in the WHL playoffs this year and leaving the lineup: "That was a different injury, sort of from it [the back] just because I had that fracture in my back and then it was overcompensating for a different muscle. No, it wasn't in my back. But same kinda thing. It was quick. 2 week recovery. We went to a guy in Toronto who was unbelievable and he helped us out with that. Yeah, that's all said and done too."

More info from Feb: McQueen nears return from back injury

McQueen said it was a pars fracture — less colloquially known as spondylolysis — which is a stress fracture of the spine common in young athletes. It’s usually caused by repetitive stress rather than an acute injury.

“I know everyone is going off a disc thing, but there was no disc problem ever,” McQueen said. “It was just a fractured bone that needed some time to heal, and I guess it takes longer for those ones to heal but it’s good now and everything is cleared up.”

McQueen acknowledged there is a possibility the massive growth spurt he had may have factored into the issue as he grew into his lanky frame.

“There are a lot of question marks about how the fracture came about,” McQueen said. “It’s kind of an odd fracture but it could have been that I’m really tall and grew super fast or it could just be after I was really tall my body hadn’t quite kept up with me and my core wasn’t as strong as it could have been. Honestly we’re not too sure how it came about.”
