NHL Entry Draft: 2025 Draft Pick Watch

12 is a weird spot if we keep the pick

If McQueen somehow falls, and the team is comfortable with the medicals, you take him no questions asked. I really doubt he falls to 12 but I didn't think Perrault would fall to 23, either. Talent wise he's a top 5 pick easy. Gonna be real hard for teams to pass on a right shot center with that size. We'll see.

We know Drury and Lilley love the USNDTP and USA hockey in general, but this probably isn't the year they take one at 12. It's likely a CHL kid but outside of Lafreniere who was a unanimous #1 pick at the time, Othmann is the only one we've taken in round 1 in the last 14 years going back to McIlrath in 2010. Is 12 too high for Cullen Potter? Would they trade back a few spots and pick up a 2nd, if they wanted him and knew they could get him? Only other American who could be picked in the general area is Logan Hensler, but he's a right shot D and I can't see that happening.
He's going to end up a clone of Gabe Vilardi if he can stay healthy. I'm taking the risk at 12 if he's there.

The Dubinsky draft was pre-Bobrov. That draft was all Gordie Clark. His draft history is pretty damned mixed. Several 1st round busts. Sometimes just shit luck like Dan Blackburn.

One of the things maybe with the team we've had is some of our top draftees have maybe had it too easy. Kakko comes to mind for one. Andersson and Kravtsov thought all they had to do was show up to get a spot. Lafreniere doesn't seem as determined as Cuylle. The Rangers later round picks in recent years have been developing very well. A number of them look like they're going to be in the NHL for a while as well as a numbers look like they could too.
The Dubinsky draft was Don Maloney

Martin may go top 5. His stock has gone up the last few weeks.
Yeah, I’d be shocked if he falls out of the top 10 at this point. I think all of the C’s, Misa, Frondell, Hagens, Desnoyer, O’Brien, McQueen, Martin go top 10. I feel only McQueen because of the possibility of questionable medicals might fall, but the talent and potential are just too high for me to even see him slipping out.

I think McQueen and maybe O'Brien will be there for us at 12. I do think there will be a run on defensemen starting at about pick 8 or 9 through 11. I think all of Smith, Aitcheson, and Mtrka are off the board, leaving us one of the centers you named above.

Really don't want to draft someone with back issues, especially a big guy with back issues.

I do expect them to keep this pick. Feels like that pushed for the top 13 protection bc they felt the draft falls off a step after 13.

They would be right about that, IMO.

My top preference is to defer the pick. But this is my wishlist if they're there at 12:

1. Brady Martin
2. Jake O'Brien
3. Keyshawn Aitcheson (coming around on him big time, but I think he's a riser and off the board before 12)
4. Roger McQueen
5. Victor Eklund (I think he can drop, simply too talented to pass up if the above 4 are off the board)
6. Jackson Smith (I see lots are high on him. I'm not. He screams being a Brady Skjei clone, and not in a good way, not like a Kaiden Guhle type that people think he is).

If its a Pars fracture like he's claiming it's not really a big deal. I don't love the dev time missed but as far as injuries go, this one isn't one that would scare me off.

We'll find out soon enough and if he's telling the truth, he won't be there at 12.

Angry react because he was very much an 11-13 a couple weeks ago! LOL

I like Smith a bit more than Aitch, but both are perfectly fine picks in that range.

Mrtka and Bear gaining traction make it more likely that a top-10 C falls, which could be great for us. Even one or both of the LD I like going early helps someone we really like to fall.

I don't know much about the pars fracture beyond the basic reading, I can admit that, but if there is anything that has effected a disc in his back at such a young age it would scare me away unless it's later in the first round. Backs are just a death sentence for a hockey player.
