NHL Entry Draft: 2025 Draft Pick Watch

I dont think he needs to explain anything to his team mates. I have a feeling they will be more than happy to have him on the roster.

He do need to however clear the air with Drury so they are on the same page.

The easy fix is him not moping and voila, PPG player again.
His moping is not a fix Drury and Sully can control so that is not an easy fix. If you feel Zibs was moping for a significant part of our season that is a problem for a team that only missed the playoffs by 6 points. How are Drury and Sully supposed to be sure Zibs will not be moping again? I'm not against Zibs but that is a very serious important question.

Unfortunately, he is already spending a portion of his off-season selling his apartment and moving somewhere else when he could be using that time to work out or skate on the ice.
The sad part is that several posters will not understand the sarcasm in this.

Well for your sanity I hope they ask him that serious important question.

What is the easy fix?

I'm not against Zibs staying if he can explain to the team:

1. Why he "sleepwalked" last season
2. Why his defense dropped so much
3. Why next season will be different
4. Whether he will go in the tank if CK is moved
Do you want a public confession or something with fans around chanting "shame, shame"?

Your questions are actually determinations that front office has to make (and for the team's sake - keep the discussions between themselves and behind the close doors for a change)

I can imagine he's going to go on vacation after sale too.

I see people say Drury will probably be fired if the team doesn't make the playoffs next year but I dunno, it's tough to know Dolan's mind.
I was there too until we saw Dolan giving Drury extension and allowing to spend historical numbers to bring yet another new coach. Simplest conclusion: Drury is pretty safe from the NYR employment perspective.

If you read my other posts you will see I have been calling for Drury and Sully to meet with Zibs and get to the bottom of things. I have never asked for anything to be made public.

Is my wanting Drury and Sully to get answers to those questions wrong? I do not bash Zibs personally or any NYR player but it feels like if anybody questions Zibs performance last season they get attacked by a couple of posters (not saying that is you).

I tend to think that if next year is also a struggle then Drury is on notice, but he'll have some leash to work on the roster for the coming year best he could

What does it mean "get to the bottom of things"? He obviously quit on the team stemming from how he felt personally (and as a group with certain other teammates) re. moves that Drury made. He also mentioned "communication" as the issue that he had with FO before Drury got the extension. This is all on the surface so what else needs to be said.

On the other hand Sally coming in - guarantee that he'll have early direct conversations with Zibanejad and typical approach in these situations would be to look forward than back. If Sally says I'm going to be a hard-ass on everyone with no exception, and not playing my way will result in not playing (and also expecting to not have his best buddy in Kreider) then maybe Zibanejad will change his mind about his NMC.

I already posted the questions I would want answered by Zibs if I was Drury and Sully.

If I'm Drury and Sully I would like to know from Zibs mouth if he feels he gave 100% last season. If the answer is no then I would want to know how the the NYR can know next season will be different.

You said Zibs obviously quit. That is a big deal if accurate. A GM and coach can't just ignore that and hope for the best.

We're going in circle now.

I don't get what benefit Drury would get from hearing whatever is going to come out of Zibanejad's mouth. Regardless of what was the cause - it's going to be concerning one way or another.

What are you suggesting be done? I suggested they discuss things ASAP before deciding how to proceed. Do you want them to ignore it? Keep Zib? Move Zib?

Decide to keep Zibanejad or decide to move him, but regardless what the Swede thinks (or more appropriately - "says") was the cause.

Zibanejad's second half shows he can play and whatever caused his poor play early, he got past it. Not so much any need for questions anymore, as a sign he needs some coaching. And Sullivan is going to be a good coach for Mika, I think, based on what Sullivan does well as a coach.

And by the way, it seems much more probable the Rangers keep this pick. It's a borderline pipe dream to think they don't. Drury doesn't get an extension, the team doesn't choose Sullivan as coach, if the team had any belief they might finish worse (and pick higher next year). Drury probably believes he made the team better after the bad start and will try to continue that, has money to spend, and a favorite (two-time champion) coach.

Buttons mock has us taking Aitcheson. Oof, another pick i would not be happy with.

I would be fine with it honestly. He’s got more skill than he gets credit for and he absolutely blows people up.

I’ve had the feeling someone in the top 10 reaches for him though. Prefer him to Mrtka.

Would not be happy if they took him over Smith like they would in Button’s mock though.

What is it that you find so hard to understand? He already "answered" all "your" questions by playing the way he did in the 2nd half. He proved he can play. That is all Sullivan needs to know.

The whatever is between him and Drury wont matter and honestly probably already hashed out.

If we end up grabbing a later 1st, i think Cameron Reid would be a good pick there. I dont see 1st pair upside there, but he could be a pretty solid minute-munching middle pairing Dman if he develops right
