NHL Entry Draft: 2025 Draft Pick Watch

Send the pick? And what if this team actually is that much better next season? Then we just pissed away a #12 to a rival?
It's over. I'm done. Drury, just f***ing do whatever you want at this point.
Kinda feeling like this as well. Very apathetic which is probably the worst thing you can feel as a sports fan. Felt that way about my football team for 8/9 years until walmart went out and got me a legit QB in the draft.

He did with GP I guess. Question is whether we will ever see GP get serious playing time like on a pp1? Probably not so give up the 12th overall pick and all future first rounder picks for players over 30 years old.
Give Pitt the choice and they send Sid here ☺️

I simply can't understand what the strategy is at the moment - if it's a rebuild, then go all in on kids, if we're rolling the dice on a closing window and going for ready-now talent then do it. But this weird "in-between" feels like we're teenagers just dry humping.

2017 was a 'weak' draft with all the talent dropping after pick 6 (and us having pick 7), but if we had pick 12 in taht draft we could have taken wither Necas or Suzuki...

You aren't getting a game breaking talent in any draft at 12 except by sheer luck, but you can pick up a very useful player
Yeah but useful players won’t move the needle for us. We need a first line or first pair stud.

Jokes on you, I am soaking.

Serious question, is this a good draft year? Are the Islanders getting a stud?

I get wanting the highest pick possible, and believing that next season can be higher. But it's most likely we'd finish in the 5-9 range anyway, and then as we saw today we could still be bumped down a few spots.
Sure 8th is better than 12th, but it's 99% likely that neither guy is a 'savior'

Ya they should trade it for that. The question is with what player.. actually they have to give it to Vancouver or keep it and give them next year.. next year is better.

I’d much rather have the flexibility of knowing the 2026 is owned by the team. The pick being better or not is sort of irrelevant. It also opens a bunch of possibilities around offer sheets.

I question the mental aptitude of people that wanted to win this lottery or keep this pick.
I’d bet good money that Drury will be keeping 12 and trading it for a u25 piece, similar to what VAN did with Hronek.

There will be a good prospect around 12, but Drury isn’t banking his job security on someone who won’t be in the NHL for 4+ years.

I think adding Miller, Spicy, and taking lesser futures to get Borgen for Kakko are pretty clear indicators that Drury isn't doing a rebuild and will be looking for guys that can contribute now. I would guess if/when we trade other guys from the core like Kreider or Zibanejad it's not going to be purely for futures, but for established players at least to some degree. Or if he does do something like trade Kreider for a bunch of futures, making this board collectively nut in their pants, he'll turn around and use most of those futures to acquire another veteran player.

Whether any of this is good remains to be seen, but that's pretty clearly the direction we're headed IMO.

which is fair enough. I don't have a a preference but can understand why others do. I just don't think the difference in player either way would be the ultimate difference maker.
There's pros and cons each way and we'll never know how the other option would have panned out.
What we do know is that which ever way Drury jumps, it'll be the wrong way
