NHL Entry Draft: 2025 Draft Pick Watch

Man Mrtka looks like a great consolation prize at 11, if he isn't taken earlier.

Doesn't look 6'6 on tape though ...

Like I said I wouldn't have him in my top 11 and part of the reason is it's a position that isn't a major need with Fox, Schneider, Borgen and last year's 1st Emery. That said if available he might be the best choice to make.....one of the reason I drop him a bit is because we have that position well covered and more need in other positions.

Picking for positional need is always a bad idea. Your needs 2-3-4 years from now are going to differ from your needs today.

That said, I'm not really seeing top 10 ability from this player even based off a highlight package. Jackson Smith popped wayyyy more.

I would probably take Smith before Mrtka. Better positional need for one. That said Smith isn't exactly small but a bigger guy like Mrtka who is bigger and can really move is attractive too.

I think it depends on your placement and how ready those prospects are for the NHL level. When you get out of the top tier, best available becomes a toss up between several players. With that said, when you need a top LD, and the draft has that available in the top tier, one that could very well play next season or the season after, I think it's ok to draft based on position. (Not talking about this draft, just in general).

But passing up on a talent that's in higher tier for positional need is a bad drafting strategy.

Same. Maybe I'm missing something but I came away underwhelmed...

Definitely would take Smith over him, but I think Smith will be gone several picks before we are up.

This is the player we NEED to draft and who will become the epitome of RANGERS hockey. If we don't move up or somebody drops, he should be there at 11. Hope we pick him.

Brady Martin

2024-25 Team: Soo Greyhounds (OHL)
Date of Birth: March 16, 2007
Place of Birth: Elmira, Ontario, Canada
Ht: 6-feet Wt: 174 pounds
Shoots: R
Position: C
NHL Draft Eligibility: 2025 first-year eligible

Described simply as an energizer, Brady Martin seems to do it all for the Soo Greyhounds. The Elmira, Ontario native can produce and generate offensively and has a defensive mindset that has helped him stand out for a Greyhound team that has struggled this season. His offensive game starts with his relentless forechecking abilities to gain control of the puck. His vision is fully displayed when he gets the puck on his stick. He is always looking for a lane to get a shot off or a teammate to feed the puck. While his playmaking abilities are not up to the level of his shot, he has shown development in being able to find his teammates more frequently as the season has progressed. When it comes to his shot, Martin has one that will translate very well at the next level and is one of his strongest offensive skills.

Defensively, Martin’s energy is felt as well. He is relentless on the backcheck and is strong when playing his position in his end of the ice. His opponents feel his physicality as he is not afraid to throw his weight around when given the chance. As an all-around force on the ice, he has been increasingly talked about as the season progresses.

Martin is a dynamic, two-way centre who rises to the occasion and has a significant impact on the outcome of games. His greatest attribute is perhaps his compete level and willingness to engage in battles. He is definitely what I would describe as a gamer and often comes away with the puck during possession battles. His compete level, coupled with his all-around attributes, really makes him stand out.

Few players go hard in the paint like Brady Martin. His competitiveness, intensity, and confidence pop off the screen with every shift. Nobody will question his effort, especially not with how physically he plays…. He’s a force in transition due to his raw strength, and he brings soft hands to go along with it. It’s not uncommon to see Martin challenge a defender in the middle of the ice, just for Martin to immediately make a move into space to leverage his powerful shot

From an NHL scout just now on Brady Martin. "He's not just the best hitter in junior. He'd be one of the best in the NHL right now"

May have u-18'd his way into the top 10. He's a savage.

If they keep their pick and stay at 11 the only guys I absolutely want to part of are McQueen (Injuries) and Hensler (you can find a similar impact D later in the draft.)

A nice side benefit of goal scoring centers is you can balance them with playmaking wingers, which are the easiest commodity to find.

Not going to happen unless we move up. Won't last past Pittsburgh IMO.

If they make the pick at 11 and go C/F Martin or Bear are the pick for me. They are very similar players. Both play 200’, are relentless puck hounds, have incredibly high compete levels and like to initiate contact. Both should be middle sixers at worst. Martin is a fierce hitter with the better shot and a more natural C. Bear has terrific instincts and higher offensive upside.

If they go D it’s Smith or Aitcheson for me. Smith is a great skater, with high end vision and passing. He is considered a legit top 4 prospect, but the potential is there to turn into a top pair defender. Aitcheson is a physical beast. He can hammer people and has a ripper of a shot.

I wouldn’t be surprised if one Martin/Bear and one of Smith/Aitcheson are available at 11. F or D?

Martin reminds me of Sam Bennett

Also reminds me of Sam Bennett. Better and harder hitter. Plenty of skill also. Maybe a combination of JT Miller, Trocheck and Bennett. Word is that he's grown an inch and gained some weight. We'll see soon enough at the draft combine. Bear has a lacerated Achilles tendon. Some athletes don't recover 100% from those injuries. I like McQueen and Bear with an injury *.

Bear is expected to fully recover, should know significantly more come draft time. McQueen back makes me nervous, so much harder to predict. I like Martin over Bear simply because I think Martin is a true C and Bear is probably a LW.

This could happen. I think O’Brien is that guy this year. True C, sublime playmaker, already 6’2” and one of the youngest players in the draft.
He will probably be gone. Our only hope is that all the other teams ahead of us decide to prioritize drafting defensemen, pushing down some of those centers to later in the draft.
