NHL Entry Draft: 2025 Draft Pick Watch

It's less about the slightly better odds and more about the fact that at 12, we can't move up to #1.
We don't want the #1.
We all know our scours suck and there's no real consensus #1 this season anyway. So we need someone else to pick the first few guys to take the choice away from us

We definitely want the number 1 if we had a choice.

NHL, you just never know. I mean, Boston from 23 to 25 went from best team, to 7th best, to 5th worst.

It's also not considered a deep draft. Of the current 16 clubs in the PO mix, only LA, STL, Win, Car, Wash, and Mon have their 1st rounder. The other 10 clubs moved it. Forget the actual pick #. Have to think who is going to be there and whether that player is worth the risk of potentially having a bad season and worrying about the pick you need to hand over to Pitt next season.

Schaefer, Misa, Frondell, Martone, Hagens should all be gone within top 5-7 at least. McQueen, Deschoyners, O'Brien, Eklund appear to likely go in the top 10. But, someone could fall. McQueen had a back injury which cost him half the season. Eklund is really thin at 160 odd lbs. So, he needs time to fill out. After this group, mostly a pick'em. So, if they end up at 12, unlikely that any of that 2nd wave falls to 12. If you are sitting at 10, then there's a chance someone falls.

But, won't know that until after the time to decide when to hand over the pick.
I'd be happy with Smith if we actually stay at 11.

but we're hitting the lotto and taking Schaefer or Misa.

10 Islanders 82 points
11 Rangers 83 points
12 Red Wings 85 points

Islanders @ Columbus
Tampa @ Rangers
Detroit @ Toronto
Rangers have to lose or Det needs to pick up one point tomorrow for us to stay in 11.

Isles are trash so we know they will lose.

Tampa is going to sit a lot of players, probably Toronto too.

Credit to the Yzerplan winning a bunch of games once they were eliminated, hopefully one more point for them tomorrow.

Let’s weigh this pick. Who would you rather have right now for the next 8 years: Cuyle or Laf? I know my pick and I know where they were picked.

Perspective. Just throwing that out there for the wolves.

> no playoffs
> no top 10 draft pick
> traded away even more young players
> traded away Kaapo f***ing Kakko
> literally ever roster player outside of Cuylle regressed heavily
> Elliote Friedman says the core has quit on the org
> coach has actively been trying to get himself fired past couple weeks

Well good season folks hope everyone had a good time

Give the pick to Pittsburgh and let the new GM reshape the squad and kick it off with a top 10 pick next year in a deeper draft. After pick 9, the players available this year have too many question marks or too low of a ceiling.
Fair enough. Don’t post until next year at this time. Not a word until draft time next year since you’ve already pre ordained the fall. Then you can shiny brag all things.

Absurd.

True

Who? Mancicni? (I'm sure there's more but i can't think of them)
Oh no, not our other mid-6 winger!
Miller (as a Ranger) did not, Edtsrom did not, Rempe did not, Brodz did not, Carrick did not, Berard did not, Othmann did not
Isn't this good thing if they all 'regressed heavily'? They'll be happy to waive clauses and go anywhere
Isn't this also a good thing (assuming he is actually let go)?

I think it's safe to assume Laviolette, Housley are going to be out the door and maybe with all the other coaches including Malcolm too.

I'm not assuming that Drury will. My guess is he'll get to choose his 4th coach.

Of the players JT, Fox, Trocheck and Igor will be back. I also think that Panarin will too. FWIW all the way down the stretch he was putting up points. They mentioned that the other night. Will they hold on to Lafreniere and K'Andre---probably. Cuylle for sure. We got plenty of guys---younger and kind of young + a few vets to fill out the bottom 6 and bottom pair positions. A few of those could stick either as 2nd line or middle 6--Perreault, Othmann, Berard. There may be additions in free agency.

Whether or not Drury is still GM they're not thinking about being a lottery team next year. They're thinking spit out the bad taste from this year and back into the playoffs. New coaching staff, new defensive system, young player improvement, targeted adds from free agency or trades. That's what they're thinking. That's what pretty much what any other GM would be thinking too looking at our roster.

Kreider I'm pretty sure will be moved. I think they'll look to move Mika too. That could be hard but I expect the GM to try.

Well that's just like, your opinion, man.

Keeping Drury around and allowing him to chose a 4th coach in 5 years would be the absurd thing. At what point is the problem not the coach?

I would punt this pick unless they win the lottery. The FA class doesn’t have me excited that this team can make a significant improvement and even if they squeak into the playoffs it doesn’t seem like much difference between 10-12 this year vs mid 20s next draft. That being said I wonder if they do punt this pick, can they get a mid round first in a trade? Cap is going up, so a team prob would take a gamble on someone like ck(with a plus) for his track record and betting the noise was the reason for the down year. Plus teams prob would be willing to give up a pick this year vs a pick next year. If so I’d be interested in them taking a look at a kid like Kashawn Aitcheson who seems pegged in the 15-20 range. Kid won’t shy away from hits and has some offense to his game.

Add all that to the Panarin news. It's likely this team will move on from Panarin, Kreider and possibly Zibanejad and KAM. If that's the plan you absolutely punt this years pick unless it's lottery.

I resigned to believe no matter what they do they will do the wrong thing. Keep the pick and whiff on a mid teen pick, and watch them finish in the lottery only for Pittsburgh to have a shot at McKenna. Punt the pick to next year, end up drafting in a similar spot outside of top 10 next year. And ultimately f*** up the development on whomever they pick anyway.
