NHL Entry Draft: 2025 Draft Pick Watch

Hypothetical question and I’m not quite sure of the answer. Could the Penguins “sweeten” the deal if they wanted the rangers to convey the pick this year? I suspect they could but unsure of how it would work.

Agreed. Absent some sweetener to convey it you use all the leverage you have (wait until the last possible second), and then use the pick here. We shouldn’t be 13th or lower with this team and Drury knows it.

It really was a terrible trade for Vancouver, giving up a guy like that for this return while also giving so much optionality to the other team.

Nebulous "Future Considerations" should do the trick.

MFs, guys drop, specially these past five years some huge prospects we're taken later than anticipated.

Keep the pick and hope some nice prospect falls to us.

This year is a weak draft. Meanwhile next year is considered a good deep draft. This team has no chance to be a playoff contender next year. We will be in the lottery next year too.

We need the Islanders to pull ahead to improve to 10th which is mathematically, our highest drafting position. If we beat Tampa and CLB, DET go 0-2 in their last two games, we can actually drop to 13th OA.

They're making the pick because Drury is a narcissist who will not in any way believe the team will be worse next year, as well as a pick another year away doesn't help Drury now
It's the right thing to do.

We will be better next year, too much doom and gloom here, the core itself is at least average and we can improve on that in the offseason, we will be back in the playoffs next season if Igor even plays a little better than his down season.

We will probably end up with the 11th pick if i had to guess, Isles having the 10th and likely stealing whatever player dropped.

I wish I shared your optimism. I've seen nothing this season that leads me to believe they will be better next year. Nothing. Not a single player improved outside of Rempe and Cullye. Will some of those guys bounce back? Maybe. Will all of them? No way in hell. If Drury plans om a major retool like approaching Panarin about a trade, that's even more reason to punt this year's pick. Regardless of whether it's what they decide to do.

Here’s hoping we somehow win the draft and can land an impact player (Schaefer, Misa, Havens, Martone), Drury ships out the flotsam and signs the right UFAs and coach to turn this around next year.

Curious who folks would want the team to select if we have pick #1, #2, or #3?

I am not a prospects guru but from the little I have read I would
#1: Schaefer
#2: Misa
#3: Hagens
Probably Schaefer. He fills a position on the left side and can skate. We can't pick #1 so I guess it doesn't matter too much. I think Misa might find himself as an NHL winger. The hype on Hagen is starting to come down.

We are currently in the 11th spot. As long as we don't pass Detroit or Columbus, we will have a chance at the 1st overall pick.

We need to lose to Tampa and have Detroit get at least 1 point in their final 2 games. Hopefully, the Islanders will get 2 points in their final 2 games as well, dropping us to 10th.

I dont think u can keep this year if u dont win the lottery
Imagine keeping the 11th pick and next year we lose the 1st pick...
Its a big gamble..
The only way we get the 1st overall next year is if we win the lottery. Is it really that big of a gamble? If Drury is still here, he isn't going to operate with the idea that we are going to be worse next year.

I'm not sure there is a GM in the history of the NHL that expects their team will be "worse next year." The general goal is to not have that happen.

He should 100% keep the pick and I believe every other GM would too given the makeup of this team. If I was a betting man, I'd put money on the idea that the Rangers would finish better than the 10th or 11th worst team in in the NHL next year. Nothing seemed to work this season, but the talent is there.

Don't care. I hear/read that every year. Every year there are surprises.

We can get picks for next year by trading Key and Kreider.

NYR pre-Lottery position narrowed down to 10th-13th;
CBJ very likely finishes behind(more points) NYR
but NYR<>NYI<>DRW seems too close to call
(my understanding is NYR own tie-breakers of more RW and ROW)

You gotta forecast us as a 10-16 finish next year. So this years pick is better. I fully expect the 1st along with Kreider as add ons to a big deal. JJ Ptererka?
