Prospect Info: 2025 DRAFT Discussion

O'brien fits what the Pens need. A center especially RH center and now Dubas can add either as a offer sheet or next year in trade or draft for the top 6 center to pair with O'Brien. If the Pens either have the 14th pick or maybe Dubas of offered say the 13th pick as Rangers don't want to lose the pick next year as it is not lottery protected I take Martin and walk away with two centers.
If the Pens have any say in whether or not to take the 2026 pick, they'd better take it.

The Rangers will keep it if it’s top 13. It’s an asset they can use to improve their team.
Correct. Dreger just said a few days ago that Dolan expects the team to make the playoffs and if they miss this season, not one player, coach, or executive will be safe from being changed to make the playoffs next season. Zero chance they are conveying on the pick if it is top 13. They 100% expect to be better next season and can use a 2025 1st more readily.

Let's hope that Miller and his stupid mustache make the Rags locker room as toxic as Vancouver next season

I hope the Rags doi is w the 10-12 pick and then they can choose. So we walk with a pick 2-4 spots higher this year or get the pick in 2026 which is a deeper draft.

This is great news.

If one of the other top prospects are on the board, I'm easily picking one of them over Martin. Martin just hasn't done enough as a whole from 17 to his 18-year-old looking to be a one-off case. I'd want to see more consistencies picking that high.
I'm operating under the premise that those other guys are indeed gone when selecting Martin. But I do like him.

Martin strikes me as a guy that’s less flashy but more translatable to the pros. In the 1 game I watched (shift-by-shift on YT if you’re interested) he played every single forward position.
Agreed, he's a heart and soul guy. Beyond his talent (that isn't as flashy as some others), his tenacity is second to none.

Desnoyers and Martin would be great!
Absolutely!

I agree, I seriously doubt they'll move it if they don't have to. Canucks should have given us their 1st instead it appears. Good job by Dubas there.

If it's next years (2026) I'm incline to it being traded for the Pens needs. They are not gonna strike gold in UFA leaving the trade route.
I seriously doubt they'll move any 1st rounders over the next three drafts unless it is to move up even higher.

If the Rangers pick rolls over to next year, they can trade the lowest and effectively bet on the idea that only one of the Pens and Rangers will be bad. Doesn't seem too unreasonable.

I think Shesterkin is bound to bounce back, and while Kreider isn’t a 50 goal scorer anymore he’s better than the 19 he’s gotten this year. Lafreniere fell off too but that doesn’t seem sustainable especially given his age. Then add a full season of J.T. Miller.

They’ll probably be a very middling team next year. They won’t be in the bottom 8 I don’t think.

Seems like a very unwise bet to make given the 2026 draft class and both teams have an aging core that are currently lottery teams and have been for almost the entire season. Penguins are not close to being competitive. Both picks could easily be top 16 again even if both teams have some improvement. Depends on how much the organization is going to prioritize competing with Crosby versus rebuilding for the future. Seems obvious to me which path they should take.

They might trade a 2hd or 3rd, seriously doubt they'll trade any firsts. No no no!

Which means the Pens can exploit that pick this summer or even at the draft.

It fallows what Dubas say's about using the Caps formula. Caps traded the Bruins 1st for Sandin (23 at the time) from Toronto, which he was a part of.

@Empoleon8771 this aligns with what you were saying.

In his post trade presser he said he's not gonna move their 1st.

You can't compare the two as equal. The NYR's have the better depth and is much younger, and the better goalie. They are far closer to be able to flip things around next season. They are not a 1-line team.
