Prospect Info: 2025 DRAFT Discussion

The tanking hysteria is a bit too overblown here. It really just comes down to the lottery for us. It'd be hilarious to see this place if we tanked our way back to 5th or 6th and then the 7th or 8th seed wins the lottery ball. As long as we don't play ourselves out of the top 10, I'm not too stressed about not getting a quality player.

Unknown until the lotto draw, however it is unlikely beneficial and all attempts to rationalize it are just coping. They were great to finish last season and how did they start this season? 29th place at Thanksgiving. Buffalo has won a bunch of meaningless late season games in their 13+ year playoff drought. Never carried over to mean anything for next season.

Dubas can’t be ignorant of this and I find it hard to believe he doesn’t think a higher draft pick would be better for this team right now than winning…I can only conclude he is a wuss lol…afraid of doing anything that might ruffle the feathers of the core and coach…sad really

There are 2 prospects that can really add to making a significant add to a franchise. The Hagens of the world are very good but not game changers. Pens will get one if not two higher end quality prospects. From 3 to 10 there is not much separation. Key is lottery for Pens and potentially Rangers pick. Dubas will be active in the draft day moves or into the draft with trades.

Jackson Smith had a strong finish. He was sitting on 2 goals on the year for a while but he somehow finished with 11. 8 in his last 9 apparently.

Probably goes to the U18s too.
 
At the same time what do you want Dubas and MS to do? You can't tell professionals to go out there and lose on purpose. Crosby wouldn't let that happen anyway. Then you have some of the new guys showing up every night and playing for next season... I think we laughed at it and were happy a few weeks ago, but calling back Jarry was probably the worst thing !!
 
What happened to Hagens? 35 in 35 his freshman year is impressive but not really 1OV territory. Mcgroaty had 39 in 39.

Very similar numbers to Eiserman and look at how much he dropped in last year's draft. I'm not expecting Haggens to drop as much cause of the draft not being as deep as last year. But you never know once teams start interviewing ...
 
If you find yourself agreeing with a Rob Rossi take, you should really reevaluate your thinking.

Again, the Penguins pick has moved from #6 to #7 with their hot streak after the deadline. They have 10 games left and it looks pretty impossible to somehow end up falling out of the top-10 in the draft. Also it’s pure casual nonsense to act like this draft has a massive difference between #6 overall and #10 overall.

Totally agree. It simply isn't worth getting worked up over. We are well past the point where they could have tanked themselves into a significantly better position.

It's too late now. He should have traded Rak, Gryz, Ned, Acch, etc at the TDL.

They moved from 6 to 7 instead of 6 to 4. How do you not understand that?
 
The Pens have only passed one team in the standings and that’s Philly who has won one game in their last ten. Pens can’t compete with that level of ass with Sid chasing records. It’s fine.

Had they maintained their winning% from before the deadline after the deadline, they would be sitting at #5. They wouldn't be in the #4 spot because Buffalo keeps losing too.

You're fretting over the difference between Frondell at #5 versus Eklund at #7. It's nonsensical. They were never behind Buffalo in the standings to be in the #4 spot and they're far too ahead of Chicago, San Jose and Nashville to even have a possibility at a top-3 spot without a lottery win.

My hope with him is that someone before us that doesn't get Schaefer is set on taking a dman. That could help push a guy like Frondell to us.

I was ice cold on him after watching a shift-by-shift where I didn't think he played very well at all but in clips from later in the year it seems like it was an anomaly and he also got better as the year went on. I'm not against picking him now. Ideally a forward falls, though, or we get him with the Rangers pick.

Seems like he's gonna go in the 8-12 range though. He was in the 10-20 range even before his hot finish.

Because everybody knows the 7th and 8th picks in this years draft are guaranteed to be worse than 5th and 6th.

Look at 2017. Picks 10, 11, 12, 13 were way better than 6, 7, 8, 9. Picks 3, 4 and 5 were better than 1 and 2. Nobody really knows in drafts that don’t seem loaded.

They’re 8th right now, tied with Boston. They’re definitely in danger of falling further down if they keep winning

No they aren't, Anaheim has a higher point% than the Penguins. The Penguins are currently sitting at #7, they're tied in point% with Boston and Boston has an advantage in regulation wins over them.
