I'm just hoping the Penguins get lucky and win the draft lottery this year. I think Schaefer is probably NHL ready next year and this team's LD group is absolutely atrocious. This team still needs to be adding more, but Schaefer, Brunicke and Pickering as D prospects is a really nice start.

If they somehow managed to pull off Clarke for Rakell, I would have loved a long-term top-4 D of:

Pickering-Clarke

Can't win more than twice. So they'd still have a shot at McKenna, but if they won the McKenna lotto, they wouldn't be able to win the Dupont lotto.

As an aside; I wonder what happens in a situation where a team is sitting like 2nd overall and they've won the lotto twice. Do all the other teams just get a boost in winning the lotto because said team doesn't have a ball in the machine or something?

The wording of the rule is you can't benefit for winning more than twice, not that you aren't entered in the lottery if you've already won twice. I interpret that to mean there is no change in odds of winning for other teams, but I could not find that spelled out explicitly.

It's all stupid bullshit imo. If a team wants to sacrifice a season to get a McKenna, let 'em. There's no guarantee the guy doesn't turn out to be a Yakupov or Lafreniere or Kakko or whatever anyway.

They have too many picks in the next 3 drafts. They either keep the pick or move it for 1 player closer to contributing.

I'm assuming the Pens keep it as they don't really have any prospects with that high of a ceiling. Depends on the prospects coming back I guess.

I don't know why you would take that from my comment. They have plenty of quantity for prospects and picks. They do not need to trade down to add more. They need quality. However, they might trade a good pick for a good young player one for one.

They say they want to compete before Sid retires, but they're full of shit and delusional, so they'll probably try it and end up rebuilding for a decade a la Buffalo.

But no, short of an absolute stud, I do not believe the pick is up for grabs.

Respectively, the pens have a pretty bad pipeline. Ranked in the bottom third on most people's prospect rankings. I assumed as much because you indicated they already have too many picks. Which implies that they're aren't interested in mass quantity to potentially steer the team in a new direction. I believe they have three 1sts and four 2nds in the next two drafts. The habs are in the exact same position for the next two drafts. But unlike the pens, they have a stacked pipeline as they're coming out of their rebuild soon.

So the pens if they were going through a rebuild soon, might want to fast track it and get an additional 2-3 1sts and 2-3 2nds (maybe include a prospect or two) just for a high pick.

Pens are moving to trades for prospects and quality. I can see the, using extra picks for combining them to move up. Ger top 7 this year, Maybe the Rangers pick and see what happens at the drat. Dubas will be active this off season.

I don't think it's out of the question that we'd trade it for help now, but that help now player wouldn't be much older than say, 25. Otherwise, I think we keep it, and maybe even move up.

Sid is hulking up and Jarry's looking competent now that he's playing in no stakes/zero pressure games, so we'll probably reel off 10 in a row.

Pens looking at the numbers are in the 5 to 8 range as to a pick. Rangers not sure but it is close to 14 or 15 as well. I prefer to run some risk and hope for next year if Rangers stink next year.

I'm hoping the Ranger's pick slides to next year too. Even if they end up picking in the late 20s next year, by all accounts that's a better draft anyway.
