Not sure that's true. Hagens has potential to be a top ten C in the NHL.

Not saying he will get there, but he's an incredible skater and is proving he can cook with talent in Boston.

Getting him or Misa would be so huge for us.
Game changer. And an elite center prospect being able to learn from Sid for a few years would almost be too good to be true.

When people talk about Pittsburgh wanting to become a contender again, a bit of luck like that would do a lot to manifest it.

Yeah, its really a 1A, and then 2 A,B,C,D at the top of the draft and then a mixed bag of players that all have warts or deficiencies that stop them from being a sure fire 6-9 pick.

As it stands, I'm kind of sitting at:

Schaefer

Misa
Hagens/Martone
Frondell

Was hoping for a little more out of Martone and Hagens to push for 1st in this second half, but if anything, I feel like they've almost played Misa up to 2nd.
Just watched a short video of Martone. The kid is impressive in highlights lol.
Always around the net, creating most of his own chances, varied shot selection/angles. Natural Born Goal Scorer.

If we end up 6th or worse, is it worth it to gamble on Mrtka instead of going forward? Then maybe try to trade up the Rags pick and grab an O'Brien or something?
I'm not too high on Mrtka. I think he's overhyped because he's big. If you want a defenseman take Smith who can skate.

I'm hoping someone creams their jeans over McQueen. Scouts feel he has top 5 skills. Maybe a healthy rest of the season gets another team's GM to bite.

Eklund’s pretty cool. Just a little more boom-or-bust than the guys ahead of him. But his upside might be pretty close to Frondell and the other forwards.

McQueen only has 1 assist in 3 games since returning. Pretty understandable he’d be rusty, but I think it’ll also hurt his stock a bit if he doesn’t ramp it up quickly.

Any chance we could deal our 1st and rakell/rust to take buffalo’s pick at 2/3?
They have 3 games in hand, only 4 pts behind. We can catch em.
- 1 line team
- worst D corp in league
- worst goalie tandem in league
- bottom 2-3 coach in the league

Idk I can think of a lot worse ways to use a #6 pick than drafting a 6'6" defenseman putting up 33 points in 38 games in the WHL in his draft year :dunno:

I'm still hoping they finish #4 or #5 because I'd be extremely happy with either Martone or Frondell. I think anyone you could pick at #6 would be a decent step down from those two.

I think if you're picking this low, it'd be nice to get a center.

Obviously you want the best player available, but I'd rather pick a winger with the New York pick.

center/r. defense are the hardest spots to get. getting those filled first would be the smart move. as long as we are not reaching to do it. imo

so your say'en that half this board is now hoping that we draft mrtka even if we get 1oa. :dunno: ............................... not me ofcorse.
I know I wasn't lol. This thread provides nearly all my draft prospect information.
The only reason I mentioned Mrtka was the forward drop off. Any only Mrtka instead of Jackson because there were 1 or 2 standoffish comments about Smith in here.
I was just wondering if the drop in forwards to the next tier was steep enough if that would be the way to go.
Get 1 of the higher ranked D first then get your forward.

I maintain that the top 5 personnel are set in Scheafer, Hagens, Misa, Martone, and Frondell. People are correct when they say there is a drop after that. Realistically, it's a 4 A++ players and a A+ player. Then a couple As. I would be disappointed with Eklund but it is what it is at that point if the top 5 are gone.

Biggest question for me is the order of the top 5. I can see many different scenarios based on who is picking where. I'm not immediately convinced SJS go Schaefer even though I think he's the #1. Roster-wise, Martone complements their current roster the best, then Schaefer. Blackhawks just took Levshunov so a #2 center behind Bedard or a wing for him would make the most sense to me. Nashville needs a center. We need a center. Buffalo needs a forward.

I can see scenarios where the order goes something like: Schaefer, Martone, Misa, Hagens. Any of the top 4 would be a win for us. After that, Frondell would be great as well. If we are 6 or later, it's whatever. Ideally Eklund or Desnoyers or McQueen. I prefer the center but any would be okay.

With the Ranger's pick, I'm guessing 15-20. I'd really love if Carter Bear was available with that pick. Then Malcolm Spence. Then Jack O"Brien. I've written of Ryabkin. I don't think he's someone worth risking. Even in the 15-20 range, we can still get a solid player. Bear would be a fantastic addition. Dude is a scorer. We need scorers.

In addition to our 1sts discussed above, I was really happy to get that 2025 2nd from Washington. it will be a later 2nd which is unfortunate but the player I would like to target in the 2nd round is Cole McKinney.

17yo, good size, PPG in USHL/NTDP, playing well in major tournaments. Not a tremendous offensive upside but he's highly touted for his 2-way game. I think this could (should) be our target for our next long-term 3C.

I think that second is cool because there’s always a guy the team had ranked in the 20-25 range falling to the 2nd, like Cristall or Wahlberg 2 drafts ago.

The picks are sorted based on playoffs right? So if Washington loses in the 1st it’s in the 49-56 range?

Since Washington is a lock to win their division, I think the lowest their pick can be is #57. 59-62 being the 4 teams that participate in the conference finals
