Familiarizing myself with Aitcheson.. man is he a gamer. He throws big hits knowing he’ll have to answer the bell and he’s ready for it and seems to relish it. He’s like if there was a 3rd Tkachuk brother and he was a d-man.

It'd be so satisfying to use the Rangers pick on someone that would dish them back some of their dirty shenanigans. Dubas talked about getting players that bring energy to the team. Aitcheson would do that and more, he'd be fun as hell to watch.

Pens have a need for physical D men who bring some bang. At 14 seems like decent value. But man adding Martin at 14 if there is just too good to pass up. Hoping the hockey Gods can do the Pens a solid and move up for Misa or McQueen. Pens take the big center at 5 and then Martin at 14 if Rangers pick is there. But if O'Brien and Martin are gone, take the D.

NHL Draft Pros on YT did an early mock draft, had us taking Eklund at 6th. He had Frondell going 4th and Martone falling to 5th. He’s pretty high on Eklund though 6th is not really a reach. Desnoyers at 7.

If we pick 6th, I think that’s the best “high ceiling “ option…

We should just play the shit out of Jarry, Graves, etc. and commit to trying to find our way into the top 4. /shrug

Nothing else matters this season. Load up Sid and Geno. Let the kids win in WBS and develop chemistry. Plenty of time for them to be ruined once they make the jump to the NHL.

The Rags keep winning and everyone around them is losing. That pick probably ends up being between 18-20th. Pens could legitimately finish 3rd last they way they've been playing

If Rangers finish mid teens, that is where things are. Pens still get a good player. Where the draft is most suggest it is not a deep draft. But you pick where you pick so with a history of teams not trading out of the top 4, Pens can finish 7 to say 5. Lottery still give pens a small shot here.

Frondell is having a strong finish to the season after overcoming some injuries. His stock is definitely climbing back up. It would really suck to lose out on him by one spot. I think Eklund would be a great add if Crosby and Malkin were younger, not quite sure he's the cornerstone piece we desperately need with a top 10 pick though.

To me it depends entirely where those other firsts are. I see Schaefer as a Cale Makar type and Hagens as a Jack Hughes type.

So would I trade Makar for Hughes, 20th overall and 28th overall? Not a chance.

Makar for Hughes, 7th and 12th overall? That's very tempting.

Uhmm Hagens is not close to a Jack Hughes type

McQueen would be more of a 'high ceiling' pick, but much more of a gamble at this point. I think Smith, O'Brien, and Eklund are the best upside options if McQueen doesn't rebound enough from his injury.

As somebody who had a back injury when I was young, I'm very wary of anybody who has suffered a serious back injury at that age. I don't know a single person who has ever completely recovered from one. McQueen would be worth the gamble with the Rangers' pick if other teams pass on him, but I don't think it's worth the risk to select him with the Pens' pick.

I think the odds are better that some team takes a reach pick on McQueen up high than it is that he drops to the Rangers' pick area tbh. I still think that dude's classic bait pick material, and will happily eat crow if some day he's an impactful NHLer. But I think at best you're getting like a Bjugstad.

If we end up 6th or worse, is it worth it to gamble on Mrtka instead of going forward? Then maybe try to trade up the Rags pick and grab an O'Brien or something?

Any of Misa/Schaefer/Hagens/Martone/Frondell/ or Eklund and i’m happy.

Also, don’t be surprised to see a team reach on Mrtka or O’brien in the top 5.
