Prospect Info: 2025 Draft discussion

If the Rangers get punished for tampering on the JT Miller trade and lose draft picks. What does that mean to the Pens pick they received?

If the league rescinds the pick does it go away all together? Or since they traded it already will they potentially take away another draft pick?

I would imagine it has to be future pick they still own.

They'd penalize the Rangers with them forfeiting another pick, just like the league did to the Senators a few years ago.

I assumed all this as well, but the league is crazy with their decisions sometimes.

How amazing would it be to have the Rangers pick this year, then them bombing next year and every other lottery team having a better chance of winning the lottery, thanks to the Rangers tampering on a player that only they were in on lol

Yeah, the Rangers are too big a team to punish. They'll just say some bullshit and move on.

Which, tbh, I don't really care from a rule breaking standpoint. Would be funny to see Rangers fans piss their pants over losing a pick due to tampering though--top tier entertainment.

i would be happy if they take their 1st this year and everyone moves up, and we get there first next year when they are even worse. imo

I imagine one of two things:

1. Rangers lose 2025 pick, Penguins get 2026 unprotected pick.
2. Penguins get 2025 pick, Rangers lose 2026 pick.

I imagine the punishment would absolutely take into consideration the Penguins having the pick. The Penguins didn't do anything wrong, thus they won't be punished.

My thing is, JT Miller has a NMC...he's 100% in control of where he goes. I have hard time seeing how it's tampering. Canucks were under no obligation to trade him.

Is there more to the story than my 30 seconds of googling that sounds like 2 players wives got wine drunk and said they want Miller to get traded back to NYR?

I want all the bad things to happen to the Rags but if that is the story, there is no story.
As I understand it, that's the story. One of the wives flew across the country or something, they got drunk at dinner and the visiting wife was basically like "You gotta make this trade happen" or something.

It would make sense that only blogs are discussing it then.

If teams could get in trouble for players wives’ actions, the Blues would have folded on account of Mrs. Craig Janney.

Seems like there's more to it than just the wives talking to each other. During an interview Trocheck outright said he was talking to Miller behind the scenes to convince him to come to New York. This happens in every league but admitting it publicly is dumb

I still don’t understand how that would be tampering. Trocheck isn’t the GM. Players try to recruit other players all the time.

In the end I don't really care about the legality of it I just wanna see the Rangers lose their 2027 1st rounder or something because that'd be very, very funny.

It's a weird thing where everyone knows its happening but you're not supposed to talk about it. I don't know if there's any official rules in the CBA but generally any outside influence is frowned upon, wether it be a GM or a player

Unless a GM or executive specifically tells a player to go recruit another player, I don’t think any rules would be broken. Players do not have the ability to make a trade or signing.

Look at the NFL, Cordarelle Patterson was actively recruiting a different receiver every week on Twitter for the Steelers last year.

Honestly I hope the Rangers blow it this year and keep their pick. Then I hope they get worse next year and dipshit Drury makes a bunch of panic moves and ruins the team even more.

The funniest possible scenario would be the Pens being the worst team in the league next year but losing the draft lottery to the Rangers but owning their pick.

Taking Gavin McKenna with the Rangers 1st that we got for Pettersson and DOC...man...

I don't know which fan base would be the highest suicide risk but I would be flat out terrified for what the hockey gods have in store for us if that happens.
